[h=1]A little Cousins at the HoopFest[/h]Posted on July 11, 2011 by Jody Demling

Jaleel-Cousins0711-178x300.jpgOne of the topics of conversation at the Eddie Ford Kentucky HoopFest this week has been about the guy that looks just like DeMarcus Cousins.

No, it’s not him.

The former University of Kentucky star isn’t back on the travel basketball circuit but his brother - Jaleel Cousins – is playing for the Birmingham Storm.

The 6-foot-10, 265-pound Cousins looks like his big brother and is now trying to follow in his footsteps on the basketball court.

“People tell me that all the time,” the younger Cousins said. “People tell me I should be the same way (in basketball).”

But the younger Cousins said he’s not there yet and only recently has started to focus in workouts and games to try and get better.

“He’s living in the shadow, I guess you could say,” Birmingham Storm coach Chris Monroe said. “He’s a very soft-spoken kid.”

Cousins spent some time last summer mending from a broken foot and has played on the varsity team at Mobile, Ala., LeFlore High School the past two seasons.

In the Hoopfest, the Storm are into the quarterfinals of the gold bracket in the 17s division after two wins on Monday. The Storm plays on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center on court three.

6-10, 265? Geez. Those Cousins kids are huge. Is he as good as his brother? Is he on the Big Blue radar?

A great recap of yesterdays games by J. Demling:

• KYA All-Stars are one of two local teams left in the 17s gold division tournament. Scott County’s Tamron Manning has been solid all week for the KYA team, including 19 in one of the wins on the day. Trinity’s Nathan Dieudonne and Butler’s Jaylen Wesson have played well, while Eastern’s Tyrell Corlew had 17 points in one of the games.

• The BA Hoyas 17s are also still alive with North Oldham’s Devon Rowan playing solid in the HoopFest. The Hoyas are also getting solid contributions from several others, including Charles Foster of Trinity. Rowan had 15 and 14 in two games.
