Cincinnati casino work to begin again soon

Recommended Posts

I have not looked at Kasich's deal closely, but in first glance in the paper I thought it said he gave a tax break of some sort to the casinos. Did he just shift revenue from one hand to the other to save face in making this deal and give him a story to tell the media and voters or did he really get more money for the state?

There is NO way they would have built a casino with the tax plan Kasich bluffed at them. That was a ploy, but it gives dems that don't understand it a rallying point. Plain and simply the voters voted in a bad deal and Kasich changed it. The casino caved because they wanted in the market and Harrah's can now offer slots at at least one track. That was the chip dangled.

That is kind of my point. It looks to me like the tax rate in place that would tax all wagers would have generated more money for the state. How much more would that tax rate have generated for the state?

It would have been more, but the casino companies wouldn't have built one so it doesn't matter. You can't tax monies in play. It's absurd that people thought that was a possibility.

I am a Christian as well. God gives us all Free Will. So those of use that gamble it is our responsiblity.

All the lies about crime growing with gamble is crazy. We already have crime growing because of the economy. Casino's can off set that with tax dollars that bring in. The only way they fail is when Law Makewrs over spend those tax dollars.

And turning to these quick fixes like casinos, legalizing drugs, lotteries, etc etc, means less likely the politicians have to be serious and fix the problem of overspending.

I can agree with your statement. BUT, they are not serious now. I think Term limits would help. Instead we allow both parties to sit in office for years and become organized criminals.
