It might be fraud and they may say no. So as more people are laid off - especially those in the 50s and early 60s where they will have very hard time finding new employment they turn to disability - unfortunately it makes sense. Around 20 years the CFO of a start-up company I worked for pushed 401K hard to the employees. He was very smart executive and a classic numbers cruncher. He made it clear Social Security was in trouble then and would never survive. And that was 20 years ago.
