Highlands 70 Newport 50

Sets up an NCC-Highlands district final Saturday night @ Bellevue

This game was a blowout, the score is not indicative of how much Highlands worked the Wildcats. They were up 30 for most of the 2nd half and then finally started subbing with 5 min left in the game.

Towles looked very good tonight on the offensive glass and scoring. I believe he had 14 and double digit boards. Crowley led all Bird Scorers with 15. It was especially nice seeing the Highlands guards play well against the quick Newport kids. Dean had some sweet passes and Carter New came off the bench and was unreal on the defensive end of the floor.

Newport has some extremely quick kids but boy do they turn the ball over and they could use a 6'3 or 6'4 kids on the block to go along with Kron Covington. They simply do not have any size. Rice plays way taller than he is but other than that they really didnt have anyone that could check Stewart and Towles.

If Highlands plays as well as they did tonight they can beat the Thoroughbreds on Sat night.

Birds looked better than I've seen them recently. Towles was very strong inside. Other than some turnovers this was a very good performance. Good to see a lot of the Birds future play the 4th quarter. Game was a blowout from the beginning.

Towles was a man out there last night. His dribble dirve for a score at the beginning of the game looked like a freight train coming. Ill bet that kid from Npt still is feeling that one. I was very impressed with his play. Crowley is just having fun out there, and when a kid has fun playing a sport he loves then look out, I hope he carries this mentality throughout the rest of the tourney.

The guard play was good with Dean handling the ball very well and doing what he does best getting the ball to the big man Stewart. Stu had a nice game and I know he has been injured most of the yr but I am still waiting for him to have his coming out party, maybe Sat. New brought some phyicalilty to the mix with his defense.

Boy, you sure can tell who the football players are when the ball needs to be had. Great game Birds!!!!

BTW Gryche, Bellevue gym a bit small, but really a great vantage point to watch a high school game. right on top of the business, sorta like DCM. LOL

You don't very often see any players knock the ball out of Carter's or Patrick's hands when they get a board.

Where are they going to put everyone who wants to see Saturday's game with the Breds? What's Bellevue hold maybe 550?

I do not know the exact total but I know it seats more than that...........................Closer to 1,000

After reviewing the scores from the 36th it is always comforting to know we seed this district.
