H.S. Wrestler Forfeits Instead of Wrestling a Female

Featured Replies

Northup was favored to win his weight class' title. No chance the decision had anything to do with fear of losing.

He simply said he did not think it was morally right to engage physically with a girl. Why doesn't anyone believe him when he says that?

Because to me it seems like a sure win to wrestle and defeat her and if she wants to wrestle with the fellas and they let her then I am going to defeat her like I did the other 34 people. Unless he is going into the match with malicious intent or has a crush on her I have a hard time grasping what is so morally wrong with wrestling her.

It's irrelevant as to your beliefs or my beliefs or Hearsay's beliefs.

I guess that's true as well.

I'm not torn at all. Have a girl's division and crown her queen. They should not be mixed together in wrestling. Kudos to this kid for being more wise than the adults who decided it would be a good idea.
Unlike some KY football schools, I don't think female athletes want to be handed a title by creating more or different divisions. :sssh:

^ yeah, like boys and girls dividing up to compete differently is uncommon.

Say the kid wrestles her and touches her breast or other private parts. The girl doesn't like that she was beaten and decides that she was sexually harrassed or touched improperly during the match. I don't blame the kid at all for standing up for what is a ridiculous decision to let girls wrestle boys.

I see you totally missed the sarcasm, comparing it to many KY HS football teams crying about not being able to compete so lets add 50 more classes so we can get a trophy. She doesn't want to be just handed a trophy ;)

I thought Rick Reilly's current column about this almost seemed to take delight in the kid getting upset in OT in his second-round match in the loser's bracket, and leaving the mat in tears (a scene I see quite often during the HS postseason, in many sports). I found it a bit disappointing on Rick's part.

I wonder if he changed his mond and if he could do it all over again if he wouldn't have forfeit? I tend to think the parents had at least a little to do with it. I know he is going to be on some CNN morning show tomorrow, but I still say some of the stuff won't be what he thinks.

AH HA! Now I see where this is coming from. His his father is a minister in an independent Pentecostal faith called Believers in Grace Fellowship.
