For starters, no way he is 1st ballot material. To me a 1st ballot Hall of Famer must be Mount Rushmore worthy. "Sheff" is not that nor even close to that. The first ballot crap is one of the main reasons I think the HOF is a joke. Either you're a HOF'er or you aren't. The guys that get in on their 14th try are really comical.

In the end I think a fair way of doing things would be to explain ther era they played in as part of their HOF bio. For Pete he should be in and it should be noted that he eas banned for life from baseball, as he should have been.

February 18, 201115 yr I'm sorry but I find it very hard to swallow the hard line being taken by the writers. If they were such purist and against PED's so much, where were the articles 10-12 years ago when it was so obvious they were becoming mainstream. Baseball as a whole, owners, players, writers, fans all got caught up and looked the other way and now the writers want to pass judgement from high. I don't buy it. Barry Bonds is a HOF'er if there has ever been one and was before he ever took PED's. If I recall correctly, many sportswriters were going after the subject even in the middle of the McGwire-Sosa race. I think Big Mac was asked pointed questions about these things in the press conferences before and after he hit 62.

Sorry for not completing my thougt, I meant that if Pete gets in the HOF it should be notd that he was banned for life, your right as of now banned for life means no HOF, but I think that his negative record should also be noted.
