Final Score.

Hats off to Belfry. By far the best defensive team West has played this year. The game was very close in the first half with the score at about 5:00 minutes in the 2nd of 14-7 Belfry. The second half Belfry's depth and along superior play in the trenches took over. Belfry is a contender for at least the semi finals IMO, and West Carter is not. West Carter has had trouble up front all season, but had a much over due season of 7-4 because of great team speed. Belfry is a very physical team that will be big trouble for Mason next Friday at Mason. West Carter had their shot this year with only 24 players but never could get over the hump and beat a quality opponent.

 

On a side note West Carter's Danny Cline whom was averaging 10+ yards a carry and rushing over a 1,000 yards this season. Was injured on the 4th play of the game and did not return. May have not be a factor in the game but definitely crippled West Carter's very balanced offensive attack and also made a very strong defense show it's lack of depth.

 

West Carter is on the rise with it's program but still no match for a program like Belfry.

Congrats to Belfry; looking forward to seeing the Pirates in a few days.

 

Hats off to the Comets as well who seem to be improving each year.

This was my 2nd time going to the CAM for a game, and it's just an amazing, amazing place. Belfry is extremely lucky.

 

Belfry would have a really, really good team if they would not put the ball on the ground. They have a good OL, their RBs are really good and they absolutely fly to the football on defense. I don't know if the fumbles are a pattern for them or if it was just one of those nights, but if they can hold onto the ball I think they have are going to be really tough for Mason County.

 

Cline's injury was big, he's the one guy WC that really could have been a threat to break a long one on Belfry. WC just isn't built to handle a team as big and physical as Belfry this season, but this was an extremely successful season for West Carter. They lose alot so it will be hard to improve on this season but at least this team has shown that West Carter can be competitive on the region scene.

 

Finally, it was good to meet Watusi at the game. Good luck to Belfry going forward as well in the playoffs. :thumb:

The game was a good one for a while and I'm sure the loss of Cline hurt West Carter a lot. Might have been a different game with him. I hope he is OK, I didn't hear what his injury was or how bad. West Carter was a solid team, with some more depth, I could see them being very good. They were well coached and they never gave up.

 

Belfry has some bright spots and at times have looked really good this season. The Pirates will need to show up ready to play next Friday because they won't be able to afford a sloppy start against the Royals. Looking forward to the trip to Maysville. Hopefully the Pirates can bring their A game and give Mason County a run for their money.

 

One thing for sure, that was the smallest crowd I have ever seen at a Belfry home game. Shame on the Pirate faithful for staying home for this one. The team did their part, they deserve more support than they received last night.
