No way Moss doesn't fill that role now. I like the decision to claim Moss. I don't think there's a big risk for the Titans here. They've got nothing invested other than whatever they pay him while he's on the roster, i.e., they didn't give up a third round pick to pay Moss for 4 weeks. I think Fisher can handle this. The risk is committing to Moss for a multi-year contract, IMO. Right now, they can see how it works and if it doesn't, they cut him loose. I'll give you two schools of thought I had, and why I think ultimately, this is will be a positive for Tennessee. Downside first...the Titans are a physical, run first team that is committed to handing the ball off to their backs. Moss is not going to be an example for any WR as a blocker. Will he give the effort in the running game? Upside...Randy Moss is an elite deep ball receiver that demands coverage. And, in spite of Tennessee's commitment to running the ball, they will attack aggressively down the field with the deep ball. That's how Heimerdinger called plays when he had McNair in Tennessee and that's what they've done this season with VY. Any team playing Tennessee has to be prepared for stopping CJ and their deep passing game. The obvious choice is putting the higher priority on stopping Johnson. Assuming Britt recovers and returns healthy, you're eventually going to have an emerging stud WR, an elite deep threat in Moss, another decent deep guy in Nate Washington, and Chris Johnson in the backfield. Moss is either going to open things up for both Britt and Chris Johnson, or the Titans are going to have some favorable matchups on the outside to throw it deep to Moss. His ability to tie up coverage will compensate for any deficiencies in his blocking, i.e., he may not block as good, but he might keep an extra defender out of the box just by being on the field. I think it was worth a shot. I started to mention Tennessee as a possibility when everyone was listing teams that might claim Moss. I thought it would be worth a shot. I wasn't convinced the Titans would actually try to get him. It surprised me a little. I'm not expecting the addition of Moss to turn Tennessee into a juggernaut on offense. I just think it's ultimately a plus and makes them a better football team. It makes them harder to defend.
November 4, 201015 yr I don't see Moss as a replacement for Kenny Britt in the short term. He's not as physical and he's not the same type of player. But, he can certainly help pick up some slack while Britt is out.
November 4, 201015 yr Main difference is Tennessee doesn't have an inept moron on the sidelines....Tennessee will be much improved from this, regardless of what Nate Washington says. Nate Washington is a bust! Moss is a big time upgrade!
