C'mon, lbbc...those kids need more than just to not have pot legalized. Shoot, if they're in a position where they're stealing from their parents to get pot and the parents haven't done anything to this point, the bigger problem is a lack of parental involvement.

Knowing the way their minds work, legalizing it sends the message that it is okay to partake. They don't care about the age requirements and just see that as adults being hypocritical. They will smoke it just like they smoke cigarettes. We will have students smoking pot on hall breaks in the school bathroom stalls.

 

And then wait and see how much your taxes go up when the free lunch program has to be expanded to handle the munchies.

Over in the Waiting for Superman thread, public schools were told to quit using the bolded as a crutch. It is always going to be a problem so just deal with it and don't blame it for the problems.

 

I agree with you but I am being told as a public school teacher that they are tired of us whining about it.

 

You won't find that argument for me. I know most don't believe it, but I'm actually more-conservative-than-liberal when it comes to things like education. And I believe that lack of parental involvement is the root of many of the ills of society. However I don't feel that punishing all of society for those people's actions (or lack there of) is either fair or productive.

Our tax/wealth redistribution system is set up that way. I am paying property tax to support education when most of my student's parents are not paying a red cent because they rent.

Our property insurance programs are setup that way. My home owner's insurance will go up to cover the cost of insurance comanies having to pay out for smoker's who fall asleep and burn their own house down.

Our road systems with speed limits are setup that way. I cannot drive 90 because the bad drivers out there that cannot drive at that speed.

People I was in school with and thought school was stupid and dumb and they didn't need it, I am now supporting on welfare/disability when they have no need for either.

How many drunks/addicts have earned their way into a disability from the abuse they have done to their body.

I'll give you this much: you have an uncanny ability to redirect attention to issues that have very little bearing to the ACTUAL issues at hand.

I agree with them being stupid is the reason. Absolutely. But that does not change the fact that her smoking pot as she put it "lowered her willingness to say no to future drugs." While high and obviously not in the best state of mind to make a good decision, she was offered a heavier drug and said yes.

 

Surely, no one on here will say that a person that is high is in the right frame of mind to make good logical decisions?

I don't think we want to base this argument on what I believe is a person's right frame of mind to make a good logical decision. The list of things outlawed would be astronomical. Starting with organized religion as enemy #1.

I have seen youth steal from their parents mortgage payment to buy pot.
