The Proposition 19 Conundrum

Featured Replies

The only thing that lead her to using more hard core drugs and eventually selling was her own stupidity. She can blame it on marijuana if it makes her feel better but the fact is marijuana being a gate way drug is nothing more then a myth. She chose to smoke pot. She chose to do other drugs. She chose to sell drugs. The friends she chose has more to do with her eventually doing harder drugs then marijuana.

I agree with them being stupid is the reason. Absolutely. But that does not change the fact that her smoking pot as she put it "lowered her willingness to say no to future drugs." While high and obviously not in the best state of mind to make a good decision, she was offered a heavier drug and said yes.

Surely, no one on here will say that a person that is high is in the right frame of mind to make good logical decisions?

I've never fought for guns to be illegal. I've fought for tougher legislation to ensure that they are used responsibly. Barking up the wrong tree on that one.

So, fully automatic guns should be legal using the logic in this thread.

In the end, doesn't everything...smoking marijuana, drinking, doing harder drugs....all boil down to personal choice and decision making? I aways am confused why marijuana is considered a gateway drug, but not drinking beer. It seems to me that no matther what, legal or illegal, you can't blame a substance on the abuse. The blame lies solely with the individual who chose to partake, and from that point, chose to abuse.

In your opinion. I know many an individual who would rather we shake off the superstitious trappings of a belief in a mystical being.

I just don't understand the nannyistic tendency of those who want to restrict individuals from making their own mistakes.

Are you also for making running with scissors illegal?

It shows that finally our country is getting away from ridiculous laws. I see this as a giant leap forward.

Since this thread seems to want to take the position to let people make their own decisions, I would assume that police, fire fighters should NEVER try to stop a person from committing suicide.

It is their body and they have made a decision to end their life. We shouldn't be a nannystic society and try and stop them. Or put laws in place that trying to commit suicide means a mental evaluation.

Let them do it is what I am hearing you guys say and quit having others trying to stop them or prevent them from taking their own life.

Watched one of the patrol officer reality shows where a police officer tackled a lady trying to jump off a bridge in Texas. From the logic I am reading in this thread, police officer was wrong and should have let her live/end her own life.

Then how do you explain the people who have smoked pot and never gone onto anything harder? She could have said no at any point. It's the same as if someone is drunk and someone else wants them to drive them home. Lack of willpower is not the substance's fault.

Well, we're talking about marijuana, so to me the analogy is flawed.

A fully automatic gun would be more like crack than marijuana.

So....in your opinion, everyone needs saving from themselves?

Absolutely not. Some are fully capable of going through life and limiting their bad choices. But the government should NOT be in the business of allowing/subsidizing/encouraging for TAX DOLLARS things that we all know are going to run some people's lives.

I would expect government to be a positive in people's lives and not setting things up that all can agree is going to run people's lives.

We cannot make that value judgement on something that is wrong. REmember the logic in this thread is to let adult's make their own decisions and stand by their stupid decisions. So, we won't be able to determine which gun is crack and which gun is marijuana.

By law, if a female is too drunk and a male takes advantage of them, can that male be charged with rape? Absolutely they can.

Marijuana LOWERS or makes willpower VANISH altogether.

I blame it for most of the votes for liberals in this country.:D:D:D That was purely a joke but some will not take it that way.

Someone once said and I have no idea whom but think it is pretty good. And I am probably paraphrasing it.

You can judge a country's ethics, morals by how it protects the weak in their country.

How does the US protect those who do not have the willpower to say no? By putting more obstacles in their way.

I know 90% of the students I deal with have problems with marijuana. It leads them to rob, steal, lie to get funds to buy it. If it was sold in a store, they would be shoplifting it.

This shows that no matter what, if they want it, they are going to get it.

Do you think the affects of alcohol has a bigger negative impact on people than marijuana?

This shows that no matter what, if they want it, they are going to get it.

If you are talking individual people, no, I think they have similar negative impact on people.

If you are talking about society, alcohol has had one of the worse negative impacts on this country of any drug, ever. But that is because it is legal and marijuana is illegal. It being illegal limits it's negative impact.

This shows that no matter what, if they want it, they are going to get it.

And that is your reason for wanting to make it legal. Well, they are going to lie, cheat and steal to get it anyhow might as well make it legal.

That mindset, people who murder are going to murder anyhow. Might as well make murder legal and tax it.

To quote my brother-in-law, "Amazing."

No, you're wrong. No one is saying all illegal drugs should be legalized. We're talking about one specific thread. So, yes, in this case, you can determine which is which
