St. X 33 Manual 18

Featured Replies

There aren't as many that play all 3 either. Manual is a solid program but will never join the Big 3 at the top as long as Joe is the coach. Just my opinion. PRP will get there first.

In my opinion I don't think there will be ANY school to break into the Big 3 or at least be a part of it on a year in year out basis. There is too much going on with open enrollment. There is no feeder system for ANY school really so that player base is not there. The big 3 keep a base to draw from on a regular basis. X,Trinity from the catholic elementary schools (although they find it necessary to get kids from everywhere else) and Male from the traditional program. Most of the kids that go to those schools start kindergarten or first grade knowing they are going to one of those schools. Therefore, the attitude of excelling academically and athletically is preached from day one. Then those kids all go to the same high school and have an understanding of what is expected of them.

And Manual cannot do the same as X and Trinity at a discounted price?

But they have no feeder system, not even a neighborhood draw.

The kids that know from day one that they'll go to Manual are the brainiest of brainiac poindexters, and only rarely do one of them (like me) decide to play football.

I'm talking about a feeder system of schools. There is no feeder system of schools for Manual or any other school in Jefferson COunty for that matter. It isn't like it used to be when you knew that you were going to a certain school in elementary, middle and high school based on where you lived. With X and Trinity kids pretty much know where they are going at least starting no later than the 4th grade. Most before then. With Male and Butler for that matter once you get into the traditional program you know that you will go to that school as long as you stay traditional. I do not believe there is another public school that can say that. For example, I have a nephew that attends Audubon Elementary. The kids he goes to school with will all mostly go to Barret and from there on to Male. These kids already know they are going to graduate from Male. He tells me that all the kids in his school cheer for Male . Thus, the basis for wanting to keep the tradition rolling of excellence on the field and/or court.

If any situation or school has destroyed the feeder sytems in Jc it has been Manual who gets the top 5 percent of all of the middle school students in JC. They get the brightest from each school and it hurts the other HS in the county. Manual's feeder system is better than Males in my opinion. Many people myself included do not like the way the Male system is fed.

OK Manual gets a bunch of smart kids who as 02Ram54 said have never played football in the backyard let alone played in a league somehere. Some of those same kids come out to have something on their college applications saying they participated in a sport. It may hurt the other HS's test scores, college scholarship rate and all that other stuff. Male's feeder system is no worse than the catholic high schools feeder system in the city.

^ come on, take all that rucus to the private/public forum....

BTW, I heard that this game was not nearly as close as the score would indicate, just from looking at it.

1) That's not a feeder system.

2) That's academics, not football.

It wasn't. Poor special teams play from X was cancelled out by even more mistakes from Manual. Manual had their shot at this one, but never pulled it all together.

Rockpride you are correct, it was a game for a quarter than it was over.

You are right it was 33-7 midway through the 4th quarter and Manual scored two td's late in the 4th quarter. I guess they were on X's 2's and 3's and they shouldn't have counted in the final score.

Were you there? 'Cause that characterization is incorrect. It was a game until the Mattingly touchdown with about 2 minutes left in the half. Until that point, X had an eight point lead (earned by a PERFECT fake punt setting up a TD), but Manual was doing quite well.

They hung until the mattingly TD. There was a few horrible calls on X's Def thet kept it close but it was over, no doubt.
