Are there actual regions in KY football?

Featured Replies

I have noticed that the KHSAA lists football programs by class and district, without assigning a region. Are there no regions in KY prep football? I thought it was the case that in a class, districts 1 and 2 were region 1, districts 3 and 4 were region 2, districts 5 and 6 were region 3 and districts 7 and 8 were region 4. Is this not the case?

I think the concept of a region got muddied a bit during the rotating district experiment for the first three rounds of playoffs.

Your understanding is correct. D1 & D2 compose Region 1 within a class; D3 and D4 are Region 2, etc., etc.

Then how does it work about T and X being on the same side of the bracket every other year?

Ah, the, "make'em happy every other year" approach.

No, seriously... how does this work logistically? I'm pretty sure that the districts don't change... is it the 6A "regions" that change every year?

Yes, just a minute and I'll find you a link that explains it.

In 6A, each region is not made up of the same 2 districts each year, they rotate.

All classes did this rotation in 2006 & 2007, but since 2008 only 6A has rotated.

I was being serious, the only reason the 6A regions change is so every other year a non-Trinity or St. Xavier team gets to go to the Championship game. "Make'em happy every other year".

Districts 'championships' no longer matter since all or almost all the teams make the playoffs. There are no regions. So its state or nothing. What is the next fix? 2 or 4 more classes? At least it will be difficult to add more weeks to the knock out period - otherwise known as the playoffs.

It seems like a poor, very poor, 'system'. When 5 out of 6 schools repeat at the state level how do the other schools measure their progress? In this system - they don't.
