Yes it is. Jurrjens and Hanson aren't even on the same planet as any of the Phillies big 3. Hudson is the only one that can stack up, and he's having a career year.

 

Hansen and Hamels are pretty darn close. Hamels would get a slight advantage due to the lefty factor.

I was not narrowing it down to the Reds but that's fair since it's the topic of the thread.

 

I don't put ANY stock into lifetime stats. Tell me what they've done this year and I'll buy in. The fact that Oswalt beat the Reds a lot when they stunk is irrelevant.

I don't care what the stats are this year nobody wants to face the Phillies 3 guys in a short series. Sure Atlanta has played well, but Philly has better players and way more playoff experience. I would argue Philly this year is far better than they were when they won the World Seires.

On the plus side, I look for them to overtake the Braves here soon, so hopefully the Reds won't have to worry about them until the NLCS, if either makes it that far.

LaRussa rearranges his rotation again so the Reds face his top three pitchers. Dusty gerrymanders his rotation to leave our best pitcher out of weekend series in St. Louis. Cueto is Cy Young from the neck down. From the neck up...not so much. He is likley to be distracted and much less effective against the Cards. Until there is evidence to the contrary (which may come as soon as tonight) I would go with St. Louis as the playoff opponent I would least like to face.

Ahhhh, may I move the Cardinals into the 1(a) slot and insert the Rockies at (1)???

It doesn't matter because it's not "easily the Phillies".

 

Looks like just about every start compares similarly with the Phillies as there isn't a huge gap in any category so I don't get where you think their rotation is that much better than the Braves. Yes they are better, but not by as much as you apparently think.

 

I thought we'd revisit this little discussion....In the month of September the Phillies Big 3 of Halladay, Oswalt, and Hamels are a combined 9-0 with a 2.29 ERA...So as I said, they're clearly better.
