By the way, anyone heard from Coupon21 or the other GC posters? It is way too quiet on this thread. Usually by now, a GC thread would be on page 3 or 4.

I would like to see this game in week six or later but since it is opening night I have to go with Ashland. I think this game is going to be a lot closer than last year. Coach Copley has had GC working hard in the weight room and having 18 seniors has to be a plus. Being a GC Alum, my sentimental pick is the Musketeers but my brain says Ashland is the best team in the area and will probably win. Good luck to both teams and I can't wait to go watch this one.

 

Doc, Just wanted to know why you think this game would be better in 5/6 weeks. Is it because you think GC will be better? If so don't you think Ashland will be better also. Or do you think both will get better and it would just be a better game to watch in six weeks? Both teams have lots of exp. So I was thinking if both teams have so many sr. Why would it matter when they play. Ashland sure seems to be ready! Just pickin' your brain!!

But this year's squad has had success in the past and they have to build their confidence up so if they were to get a few games under their belts and remember what it is like to win and to be a contender --- the Ashland game may not be so one-sided.

If that is Doc's thinking I to agree. Maybe the athletic director should change the way he does the scheduling. If you are trying to build the program and gain confidence in your troops. Why play Ashland and Russell back to back. Then play 1A Port Notre Dame, Raceland and Coal Grove. We can always second guess!! Thanks for setting me straight Option V.

I saw where the Tomcats were ranked 10th in 5A in the coaches preseason poll. Good to see the T-cats get some love.

 

But, Johnson Central was ranked 7th and Highlands 1st - it's a tough district and region.

That it is. Much to the chagrin of the rest of our local schools, it seems like the Tomcats are doing the best they can to try to field a team that might possibly be able to compete against Highlands. While they'll probably forever remain leaps and bounds behind Highlands, they've distanced themselves quite a bit from the other teams in Boyd and Greenup counties. In my opinion, none of Ashland's games should be close this year with the exception of two, Ironton and Johnson Central. Ironton is going to be seeking revenge on their home field, but I would think that Johnson Central should be Ashland's primary target this season since Johnson Central seems to dominate that series. It is good to see Ashland ranked in the top 10, though. They deserve to be.

We, Raceland, feel your pain. Our District typically fields 3 teams in the Top 10 with us, LCA and Fairview.
