Kelly Johnson didn't play just "half a season" with the Braves before they made a move. He actually played 106 games and had a batting average of .224, so to use that analogy is off considering the number of players who switch teams and do better. Just look at Edgar Renteria going from Boston to Atlanta.

Johnson was put on the disabled list last year after the 78th game, in the first half of last season, and had only 69 at-bats the rest of the year.

 

Yeah, I think it's fair to say they gave up on Johnson after a bad half-season. And yes, Prado won the job, but it sure looks like the Braves made a bad move just letting Johnson go for nothing, given how he has played for Arizona. Granted, the vast majority of his production has been in the Diamondbacks' home park, but they still gave away a guy that had some value for nothing.

Now I will say that I did like Escobar as a player and you are correct that at this time last year no one would have even considered this happening but times change and so do players. Escobar wasn't a clubhouse favorite due to his arrogant ways on the field and in the clubhouse. Bobby Cox didn't like him and many players felt like he didn't hustle enough on the basepaths.

 

Also, Escobar while accurate with a lot of throws seemed to be pretty lackadaisical at times and some costed the Braves wins. He has 14 errors thus far while Gonzo only has 11. I'm not saying that Gonzalez is the better player but I do think that it was time for a change and unfortunately he was dealt to Toronto. I hope He gets back on track and has a successful career but he wasn't a Atlanta Braves type of player in the end.

I don't like this trade at all. I haven't seen the money involved. If they raked in some cash to be able to do something then I can understand. Bad trade was my first thought when I saw it. Braves are my 2nd favorite team.

Actually Escobar was never a "Braves type of player" do some research on it and you'll see. He was benched multiple times for his actions on the field. With Bobby as manager you will see players that hustle and give 100% all the time, and that's not Escobar. He was putting up good numbers so they kept him hoping they could change his attitude but it didn't work, so when he numbers took a spiral downwards they figured they could part with him.

 

 

I liked Escobar but like I said I'm not really upset with the move.

I like the deal because it keeps St. Louis from getting Gonzalez.

 

As a Reds fan I would love to see Gonzalez play for the Cards. He stinks. If any team is counting on Gonzalez to produce in the 2nd half, they could be in for a long fall.

 

I don't like this trade for the Braves, but sometimes you just cannot keep a player around. They had a lot of problems with Escobar & got some decent prospects in exchange. They also acquired a SS who is having a better season than Escobar, although I like Escobar's future much, much more than Gonzalex.

I think it has to do more with the fact that Escobar and the future Braves manager Terry Pendleton don't see eye to eye and Escobar doesn't take Pendleton's advice as a hitting coach. More of a big picture move for next year.

I like the deal because it keeps St. Louis from getting Gonzalez.

I think it is a good deal for the Braves. They were getting nothing offensively from the SS position.
