April 15, 201016 yr I don't think the issue is the percent of black MLBers as compared to the overall black population %. The story is and has been the decreasing number of black MLBers. I'd assume that there are also less white players than the old days as well. Latinos have had an impact on both black and white.

Unlike blacks playing baseball, white kids playing basketball has , at worst, stayed the same and , more likely, increased. I do not believe the great majority of folks who are concerned about the number of blacks in baseball as a whole. IMO they're concerned that the number is decreasing, thus, its a relative argument . You can only bring basketball and whites into this debate if you prove that whites are not playing basketball at a younger age as compared to previous years.

I do not doubt that those sports are gaining participants. However, my experience with youth leagues tells me that there is no shortage of white kids playing basketball.

There have always been a lot more white kids than black kids. Irrelevant to the argument. If there has been a decrease in the % of white players in the NBA over the last 2 decades its NOT because there has been a dramatic decrease in the % of white kids playing basketball.

My argument to that is that it would depend on where you are watching the youth league games. I think if you are watching them in the inner city then it would be a different story. Bottom line for me is the most talented players are playing in the Pros. I don't believe that owners who are banking millions of dollars into their teams really care what color a player is. Most care about winning and all care about money.

He simply said that, in his experiences, there is not a shortage of white basketball players in youth leagues. That seems fair to me. Do you have any evidence otherwise?
