Really now. Last I checked, they've lost 2 of their last 3 games. One of those losses was by 12 runs in just 5 innings. Can you really say they played well that game?

I read where Coach Ledington said that Corbin did play pretty well in that game, they were just beaten by a much better team. Blessed Trinity, GA has one of the best programs in Georgia and have several former players who are currently playing Div 1 baseball, a couple playing minor league baseball and another in the majors. I think that Corbin faced a pitcher who has already signed with Georgia Tech, so sometimes you can play well and still be beaten soundly.

Well, if they didn't play well, then what does that say about South Laurel? Methinks you have partaken a bit of sour grapes.

I'm saying they showed up for one game. I just thought it was funny that they win one decent game and their fans are saying "watch out". haha We'll see how they do tonight.

The person who said to watch out was not a Corbin fan.

 

Corbin and South Laurel are almost mirror images of each other this year, both have some talent, but not a whole lot of varsity experience. Both teams will be up and down this year, but they could also both be regional contenders by tournament time.

South Laurel 3-9 (wins over Knox Central, Wyclyffe OH, & East Carter)

Corbin 7-6 (wins over Clay, Barbourville, Rockcastle, McCreary, Hilton Head SC, West Oak SC & South Laurel)

 

Neither team has torn it up. South has disappointed me, but I do expect them to start improving with several young players. Corbin has a first year coach and I expect them to start improving as well. Neither team is at the half way point and it is hard to tell how they will finish up.

In the region, Whitley, Clay Co and North Laurel are the only teams who have already topped 100 runs scored. Between those 3 teams, they have only 1 regional loss.

 

I think it is going to be a fun run down the stretch.

Well thought out and concise post. I think that if Corbin continues on the route they are on, then they will definately have a say in who wins the district and region. South really looks to be struggling to score runs. I think Ledington is one of the better coaches around and will have his team contening ssoner than later

Actually, Middlesboro also has 106 runs.

 

But really, a better judge of a team is runs given up. Any team can go out there and run it up on an inferior opponent. And perhaps their hope is that by running it up in as classless a way as possible, people may tout them as a great team based soley on run production.

 

Of those tops teams in the region, coincidentally, Clay County and Middlesboro are tied with just 68 runs given up. I actually think these two teams are strong contenders at this point, along with Whitley and Corbin on some days. Look out for a team from the 50th district to get hot though!!:sssh:

At the time I posted this, the KHSAA website was showing them at just under 100 runs, but this changes constantly.

 

I agree. Good pitching and solid defense are MAJOR keys to success and both Clay and Middlesboro have been pretty solid in that category.
