April 8, 201016 yr Two cars. My wife got $225 for the Kia Sedonna and I got $175 for the Elantra. THis was also during the summer where we did a lot of traveling to my daughter's golf tournaments and my sons baseball/basketball games. Fine. So 25mpg is probably close to a fair estimate for a combination of those two vehicles.:thumb: A lot of driving!!!

You are saying that all the money that would be taken with a windfall tax would be given to all those corporations to help them make due? Is that what you are trying to say? The thing is that there are ways to make due with shipping costs as well. Who knows, maybe it would lead to profitability for local farmers again because it will cost companies less to get their products from local growers and we may have to start getting used to seasonal items being less available. Lord knows people made due in the past. Move your kids to a school that is closer or demand that your school districts switch to more fuel efficient vehicles for transportation purposes. If people will pay a price for something, then yes it is a fair price. The only way you can seriously affect the cost of something is to refuse to purchase it until it reaches a price you are willing to pay. Price controls are a disaster, rent controls in big cities have not been particularly helpful except to those already in an apartment. No reason to get into the market at that point. We need to invest in mass transit and be more intelligent when building our communities. If you choose to live somewhere where the distance causes your fuel costs to go up that is your issue. To answer your question, they earned the money you gave them. It's not their fault you don't drive something more fuel efficient, walk, ride a bike or use mass transit. What other options do people have? Our country was not designed for mass transit unless you live in a big city. People say well in Europe they pay more, well they have solid mass transit. Big oil also earned our money back in 2000 when oil was 15-20 a barrell, they are just earning a lot more of our money now. What gets me is if people are willing to pay for something, well they have no choice. And people have cut back oil demand is down. But oil is our bloodline and it is a big part of the reason we entered this deep recession, is the overall health of our economy worth the profits of some? When oil was 140 some odd dollars and gas was 4.35 did you still have the same views as your saying now? Our debate really doesn't matter. Obama and Washington will go after them regardless if they want to. But if they are giving them a 75 dollar leadway I don't think that is unreasonable. Balance out big oil and speculators so that oil is in the 50's or 60's, which they are still making hefty profits and we are paying 2.35 a gallon and the economy can move forward.
