April 3, 201016 yr I see this as purely symbolic step designed to win-over voters who can be misled into believing this decision will actually result in additional domestic drilling. Agreed.. Nothing but smoke and mirrors to win over some voters... The oil in Alaska is ready now..... What Obama is opening up the "exploration"of is years down the road... Why not go after the oil that's readily available... Smoke and mirrors.. April 3, 201016 yr From what I have read if ANWR were opened today its 8 years before we see the first drop and 18 years before its at full production. Secondly, I think some people believe ANWR will make us energy independent or close to it. Its not even close. And who ways that oil will stay in the US? There are no restrictions on the oil companies. They can sell it to any country they want.
