March 23, 201016 yr I think it's great to see the Twins keep Mauer. BUT, I don't know if I would've given a catcher that long and big of a contract. The Twins will have to be very cognizant of his health and alway keep the possibility open of switching his position.

The Twins will have to be very cognizant of his health and alway keep the possibility open of switching his position. I too was amazed that a catcher would garner this length of a contract. However, I think a couple of things will eventually happen. First of all, since he's in the American League, he'll be given some "days off" from catching and be the DH. Then, I think you're likely to see him wind up at 3rd or 1st full time in order to spare his legs. And it wouldn't surprise me one bit that all of this was discussed prior to the contract.
