March 17, 201016 yr He was born in Worcester, MA. He is alos a gaduate of Marquette. So he isn't a UL fan. I was born in Louisville and that does not make me a UL fan. I graduated from EKU and yet I am a UK fan. Where he is from or where he graduated from doesn't say yes or no to who he is a fan of. I have friends in FL and WV that have never been to Louisville, but are UL fans. However, I never once thought he was a UL fan. I am not sure he is really fan of college basketball in general. I hate when people bring up any UL connection to this sort of article. It has nothing to do with what this guy wrote. He doesn't like Calipari and makes that abundantly clear. I agree with another poster that he isn't breaking any new ground here, ... just getting in his digs.
March 17, 201016 yr Only UK fans can get on here blame Louisville then talk about how this guy should write about Pitino because he is worse than Cal, with out calling the article out on anything that was said. UK fans just live in some kind of dream world bubble where Cal is a saint.

UK fans just live in some kind of dream world bubble where Cal is a saint. Not all UK fans are on here blaming UL. It is hard to pin the actions of a few on the entire Big Blue Nation. But then again, only a UK 'non fan' could pigeonhole us all together. And what new information is in the blockbuster article? It has all been said before, ... he just made it more personal.

That said, this is a slant towards Kansas (does he seriously think they're the most complete team since Laettner's Duke team?) and you can tell that when he talks about the Jayhawks. Oh and of course Kentucky fans are going to make this out to sound like Louisville. And considering I've read plenty of things similar from Louisville Rivals board, it doesn't surprise me one bit.

I would argue the UF team with back to back titles is the most complete team possible since the 60's or 70's so I'll agree with you there. Nothing about this Kansas' team screams to me they will go down as one of the best of all time. I wouldn't take them over the 96 UK team either.

He figured he could sale papers by writing this article at this time of year because the cats have a great shot of being in the finals.

Landon Slone, Matt Pilgram, and Kevin Galloway might disagree with you on that one.
March 17, 201016 yr Landon Slone, Matt Pilgram, and Kevin Galloway might disagree with you on that one. I thought your sarcasm detector may go off. There aren't many coaches that are "saints." Oh, and you can't please everyone.
March 17, 201016 yr Landon Slone, Matt Pilgram, and Kevin Galloway might disagree with you on that one.College basketball is a billion dollar business...comes with the turf.
March 17, 201016 yr Author Landon Slone, Matt Pilgram, and Kevin Galloway might disagree with you on that one. Should they really hold a grudge against a coach because they aren't good enough to play & he was upfront with them?
March 17, 201016 yr Should they really hold a grudge against a coach because they aren't good enough to play & he was upfront with them? Was he upfront with Slone? He never talked to him face to face. At least have the courtesy to tell him face to face his services aren't needed. Kind of like when Pete Carroll told his team by text message he was leaving for the NFL. I have no problem with Calipari thinning the roster. It was obvious BCG wasn't the recruiter everyone thought he was when he was hired at Kentucky. You dont get a #1 seed in the tournament with mid-major talent.

It was obvious BCG wasn't the recruiter everyone thought he was when he was hired at Kentucky. You dont get a #1 seed in the tournament with mid-major talent. I don't know if he was upfront with Slone or not, but I do know that Cal was very open about not having any walk-ons on the team just for the sake of having a walk-on. I don't know if Cal spoke personally with Slone or not. He may not have. He should have. But, we all saw the writing on the wall & if Landon did not it is because he had his eyes shut.
March 17, 201016 yr There was a story in the USA Today on Tuesday about the players who left right after Cal was hired. Pilgram seemed to show the most disgust over the situation. Slone was quoted as saying Cal never returned his call or took his meeting, which meant he saw the writing on the wall. (ha, clever pun alert). The story also said AJ Stewart will likely not be academically eligiible to play next year for hsi new school
March 17, 201016 yr UK fans might as well face the facts, Cal's reputation is going to follow him the rest of his career so you might as well get used to it. Also, due to his reputation the program is being looked at with a fine tooth comb by everyone just waiting on a slip up. We are all entitled to our opinions on coach Cal and whether you like it or not he left UMass and Memphis while being investigated by the NCAA. He was ultimatley in charge of those programs so it was his job to know what was going on. Who do you think the UMass and Memphis fans blame for their final four appearences being deleted from the record books?
March 17, 201016 yr Should they really hold a grudge against a coach because they aren't good enough to play & he was upfront with them? If he refused to meet with them I'd say he wasn't very upfront. But, I do think he had a right to cut them. Ultimately his head is on the block for wins and losses so he needs to have a roster he feels gives him the best chance to win, and if that's without non scholarship players, so be it.
