13th Region Championship on Monday night from The Arena. So who wins and why?

Corbin was expected to be here. They have owned the 13th the past few years. They have great talent, solid coaching and the confidence that they are the best team in the region. Isaac is the best PG in the region, Johnson is a scorer, and they have a deep bench. Manns is a load on the inside.

North Laurel was not expected to be here, but seem to have peaked at the perfect time this season. They gave Corbin their toughest game in the region last year after the Hounds dominated them in the regular season. Corbin dominated them earlier this season, ... but then again, so did South Laurel in their last meeting before the post season.

IMHO, this had the makings of a great game.

I'm really excited to see this one.

NL has nothing to lose as was the case last year. They are far and away the one of most improved teams in the region from the beginning of the season till now. They will give Corbin all they want and then some.

Corbin is the favorite and I look for Wilson and Johnson to have big games. In my mind, the key is who will be the 3rd scorer. If Smith or Manns plays like they're capable of then I think Corbin will pull it off. If they don't...could we see the Jags in Rupp?

Should be another exciting Regional Finals!!!

Corbin needs to cut off Waldrup's drives to the basket or at least make him take difficult shots without sending him to the line. He was able to help get St John in serious foul trouble by beating his man off the dribble and getting into the lane. If Corbin's defense is solid, I think they win.

As Mountain Thunder stated North Laurel needs to get out in transition and get baskets before Corbin can set their defense. North Laurel cannot let Wilson beat them down the floor, he will shred their defense if they allow that to happen. They cannot give Johnson any open looks from behind the arc and hope that Smith and Taylor are not able to knock down shots for them to win their fist regional championship.

Corbin 65 - North Laurel 60

You nailed it. I think the two best PGs in the region tournament will face off in Wilson and Cheek. If Wilson beats NL down the floor, it could be a long night for the Jags. IMHO, he is the best PG in the region and has been for the past 3 years. On the flipside, Corbin can't let Cheek get out in transition. NL will have deny Johnson open looks as they did Gilbert and Watkins for SL. If he gets on a roll, he can fill it up. Wardrup seems to find a way to get his shot off, but Corbin has to make him take more off balance shots. The darkhorse player to watch in this game could be Raymond Shears. He has the ability to play solid defense, but on offense if he gets going, it could really take the pressure off of Cheek and Wardrup. Likins needs to continue shooting the outside ball the way he has so far. He can flat fill it up.

I am naturally pulling for another NL upset win. But they have their hands full with the Hounds. They did give Corbin their best game in the region last year, but Corbin has been and still is the team to beat in this region.

:thumb: I believe North can guard them and "D" will be the key in this one. If North can hold Johnson or Wilson too 10 or 12 points they should win this game. If both of those guys go for 20+ this could be a long night for the Jaguars.
