My new phone

Featured Replies

Recently, I upgraded to an HTC Eris, which is flat out AWESOME! I've even been getting some envious "I wanna phone that does that" from some of my iPhone carrying friends.

When I first got it, I was pretty intimidated. I thought I had gotten a phone that was too much for me. But, now that I've figured it all out, I'm in App heaven!

Had to brag. It's a darned cool phone!

I wanted an HTC, but my local BluegrassCellular store didn't have them yet.

I picked the Samsung Finesse. I liked it then, it's okay now. I want to either go back to the Blackberry, or upgrade to something more iPhone/HTC-like.

I'm with Verizon, and we got such a super deal...I gotta brag on that too.

I've never had another cell phone carrier. I absolutely love Verizon. Their coverage is the best, IMO, and their customer service is unparalleled.

They sent me a notice that I was eligible for an early upgrade, so I called. The phone was $199, and I got a $100 rebate. Then, because I'm a VIP customer, I got another $50 off. So, I got the phone for $29.

My son's line, however, they told me wasn't eligible for early upgrade and he'd have to wait until September. But, a week later he got a text message from Verizon saying he was eligible. So, I told him to take his phone to a Verizon store because I didn't think it was right. He went in, and they said that normally it's only for the primary line, but because he got the text, they'd go ahead and do it.

Well, they had to call me to verify that it was OK, but I was in a meeting. So, while he waited for an hour, he overheard the guy talking to a lady inquiring about an upgrade and he told her that if she bought a smartphone, she'd get one free. So, my son goes back to the guy and asks if that applied to him, since I'd just upgraded the week before. The guy checks our account and says yes. So, we got to Eris' for $29!

SWEET!

No kidding! I was seriously tired of always having the "look what I can do" thrown in my face. :D

I've wanted to join Verizon for a while, but there isn't one close. A few friends have Verizon and their service is great. I had AT&T for a while but had plenty of problems with them. I have since went with the other local carrier here (BluegrassCellular). The service is great, but I feel like I'm a grade below the national lines in terms of opportunities (phones, etc.) though they do give upgrades.

Thing is, I signed up for a two year plan just this past summer, so I'm out of luck for a while...

That's a shame they don't have one closer.

For what it's worth, my daughter has AT&T and she has had all kinds of issues with her service. Sometimes, she can't even use the phone in the house. She has to go sit outside just to get a signal. That's just crazy! We live right in Louisville. She shouldn't have any issues with getting service in the house!

Yes, service in my area has gotten really bad in the past few months from AT&T. We had problems with service and they sent their fair share of bills that were way off. We got a bill for $1,300 once...

I can buy out the contract with Bluegrass. I think it's $150 for the main line, and maybe $50 for the other two, if I really wanted to. Thing is, around here and with the majority of people I know, the cell phone numbers are all similar. Moving out to Verizon would whack the whole thing up...

You can keep the same number. There's that number portability thing you can do. I don't know exactly how it works, because I've never used a different service or had another number. But I know people who've done it.

I'll have to look into that.

Did you look at the other HTC Phones? Do you know how some of the others stack up to the Eris?

I didn't personally. I put my much more technologically advanced son on the task. :D He checked out all the phones at Verizon, including the Storm, and then we checked CNet and it said the Eris was better than the Droid. So, based on his months of research and the CNet info, we went with the Eris. For the record, when I say he spent months, I mean that. He lives near the Verizon store in Evansville and went there about 5 times a week checking the phones out.

Isn't the ERIS using Droid compatibility? Droid Eris by HTC.

Anyway...

Thanks for the input. I'm going to go scan CNet and see what I can find. Bluegrass offers a variety of HTC phones, but not the Eris... Grr.

Good luck in choosing a new phone!:thumb:

I have Verizon and love every bit of it. I never am out of service when someone else has it. In other words, if Verizon doesn't have service, neither will you. I'd love to upgrade but I have no reason to. I have an EnV-touch and for the most part I like it. Verizon gives you the best customer service as well. When I was with Sprint I had to buy a phone everytime one broke, but with Verizon they're usually willing to replace it/give you a good deal on a new phone.

I have Verizon, so I may have to look into your phone, RM. FWIW, I love Verizon too. I can't imagine having anything else. I never have service issues.

Currently, my cell phone won't stay charged for longer than 12 hours.

It was completely charged this morning when I took it off at 8:10 a.m. By 6:30, it was blinking "Battery Low." I have quickly browsed the internet for a new battery because 1.) I'm too cheap to buy a new phone; 2.) I'm not willing to buy a phone that is not a "smart phone"; and 3.) I don't havfe a free upgrade, yet.

I can't wait until I get that text. :D
