If Villa can handle the NDA pressure, they have a chance to win. If NDA hits outside shots, they have a chance to win. As it has been said many times here, NDA's stronger schedule during the regular season is a big advantage. NDA by 8.

Technically, my friend, I was closer. 120 x 4 = 480 while 150 x 4 = 600 which would get me busted on Price Is Right but would make me a winner in the "Are you smarter than Panda?" game.

No - the Villa # quoted above includes elementary school. Villa 's entire HS (boys and girls) is only 195. Less than 100 girls in the entire HS. Villa is very small. As far as scheduling - remember they are required to play everyone in their conference twice. There are only 46 boys and girls in the entire senior class this year.

Really, hmmmmm!

Villa has had talented teams in the past, but they never compete in the Districts and All A because they play a weak schedule. Their players are never use to the uptempo and quickness of the game that the bigger schools play at. They should play the bigger schools to improve in the regular season vs. padding their record against all the small schools north of Lexington.

 

The last time Villa won the conference and had a chance at regionals was the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 seasons. Both times they blew it by losing in the preliminary rounds in districts, mainly because they did not have the experience at playing better teams. One major difference between those teams, however, and this year's team is that the teams 8 years ago were composed of girls who were three and four sport athletes and had never concentrated on basketball. The three dominant Villa seniors have been playing AAU ball since 4th grade, have successfully played in super regional and national tournaments, therefore, they have much more experience against tough opponents than Villas's teams in the past. While it normally provides an appropriate level of competition for Villa playing in the third division, it was a shame that for the past several years when the team had a few better players, Villa did have to play at least 12 games a year against the conference opponents which, except for Ludlow, provided not much competition. I think it will be a closer game than many think and that it really doesn't matter who wins Monday night (it's not like Villa can make a serious run beyond the second round of regionals) because this team has achieved its goals for the year. Go Villa!

Villa averages 18 wins per season over the last ten years. They may have, and I am using an educated guess here, about 120 girls in the entire high school. NDA has that amount in one class. Scheduling schools 4 times their size out of district just doesn't make any sense to me. I like the program and the staff just the way it is.

 

I'm not trying to start anything and I"m not sure of my numbers. But the larger schools in the area(Boone, Ryle, Holmes ) as I understand it are about

3to4x as lrge as NCC and they compete with the larger Schools. I' don't think the poster is saying VMA should play to many schools that size but just toughen up the schedule a little. Playing tougher cometition is the only way to get better and IMO the kids always feel better if they compete with good teams. Win or loose, as long as the can be competitive. The kids might start out getting beat badly but if they work at it they might even pull off some big upsets in march.

You really have to understand Villa, these kids are spending as much time at the conservatory of music, State academic teams, etc. It is rare to see the same kids on the starting 5 on the basketball team as are on the school academic team, or performing at the conservatory of music, but this is true at Villa. This is not bragging but basketball is one important thing among many important things.

 

The school is proud of these kids for mutliple reasons. Winning a basketball Region is just never the goal but when you make it to the show it simply adds to the significance of the overall accomplishments of this great group of girls.

 

And this is strictly my opinion. As stated above you will see Villa compete and represent their district with pride and determination. I too expect a good game on Monday.

I stand corrected.

 

They really need to redo the name to show the difference on the listing to Villa HS - Villa Grade school. Would make it a lot easier to understand.
