For the 9th time in 13 seasons, Oldham County and South Oldham will decide the district. In 8 of the last 12 years, South has claimed the title; Oldham has won the district 3 times in the last 12 seasons.

 

South outran a gritty, but short-handed Trimble County squad in round 1; Oldham used their press to great effect last night, blowing out to a big early lead over North Oldham and cruising for the victory.

 

Key Players: South - Jordann McGuffin - McGuffin is a three year starter who reached the 1,000 point plateau earlier this year. Jasmine Whitfield - The talented sophomore is finishing her second year as a starter, and has hit 50% from the floor two straight seasons. Whitfield is a solid outside shooter, and tremendous defender with long arms.

 

Oldham - Emily Lape is a deadly shooter who's big enough to play down low, and a strong enough shooter to step beyond the arc and drain the three. Emily Melton - The sophomore gives the Lady Colonels one of the premier three point shooters in the region.

 

Keys: South has incredible depth, going 9-11 deep almost every game. Shooting has dramatically improved this year over last, and Frank Wright's teams are always physical defenders who are able to keep teams from doing what they want to do. South is pretty young - 5 sophomores play a lot - but they are veteran sophomores, having all played varsity last season.

 

Oldham's offense has been prolific this year, averaging a region 8-best 62+ points per game. However, they are the region's worst in points allowed, giving up 62 ppg... Although Oldham starts three seniors, they get very young in a hurry after that, and one of the key subs is an 8th grader.

 

South won the regular season matchup in Crestwood the first week in January, 60-52, outscoring Oldham by 2 points in each period.

Going to be a close and hard fought game for both teams!! you never know what can happen in rivalry games

I see a very close game with these two teams, maybe a last second shot again. They always play each other hard. :taz:

Oldham has to take care of the ball better than they have at times this year, and hit the glass. Their defense also has to stand tall.

 

On the other hand, South probably would have lost the first game if Lape had been on. Oldham repeatedly got the ball in her hands in excellent scoring position, and Lape simply missed the shots (everyone has those games every now and then.)

I think South will win and it won't be close. They have been up and down. But with the end in sight, you might see the best South Oldham of the year.

South may be up and down from a coaches' viewpoint, perhaps (coaches are ever pleased, right?) - but 13-2 over the final 15 games of the season...

Going to be a interesting game tonight- much will depend on how South deals with the running style of Oldham. Defense will win this one IMO.

 

Big time game with big time pressure/expectations- who will be the most ready????? Who will step up tonight with the district title on the line?????

 

The last three years district winners went to the team that lost the regular season game - which would mean Oldham, since South won that one.

 

I am going to predict the end of that streak- South will win by 7.

I didn't realize south was on such a streak CM, very nice. Some nice wins in that group as well. Meade, Bardstown, Oldham, Owen are quality teams. Maybe not a signature win, but very impressive none the less.

 

Oldham looked good Wednesday night. The PG (#00) was impressive, as was Lape. I hadn't seen North play this year but they must have just played poorly. They looked to be no match for Oldham.

 

I like South tonight though. I think their length and pressure could give Oldham some problems. South IMO is just a better team right now. Should be a good game though!

As always, I'm going to refrain from making predictions in a game involving two schools I cover! I will sit back, call the game, and enjoy every minute. :popcorn: These two have provided great entertainment over the past 12 years with a very competitive district rivalry...

Only seen each team one time this year and one was a scrimmage. That being said, I'll take South by 10+.
