While that was not the point, you are only partially right. Cigarette smoking is extremely addictive and many became addicted prior to knowing that smoking was harmful, and often being misled about health risk.

Do you really believe that people did not realize that it was harmful... That brown lung booger smokers started blowing out on a daily basis after smoking would have been the first clue... Those that did not had their heads in the sand, even prior to the warning labels IMO.

The addiction, IMO, is mostly in peoples minds. Over 21 years ago, I smoked 3 packs a day, tried to quit and "couldn't". Had a health scare and threw away the cigarettes with zero problem without wild cravings or any issue whatsoever for the past 21 plus years. It's all in the mind.

No luck involved. Just the realization that it's in the mind and anyone can quit easily if they want to.

My mom and pop did the same. Dad had a heart attack back in 85. Had been a big smoker as had been my Mom. Both quit the day after the heart attack. From what they tell, it was pretty easy to quit. Prior to then they hadn't quit because they enjoyed it. Once they realized that the "smoking causes death" messages were real and applied to them, they simply quit.

Thanks RTS. Up there last night for several games of euchre with the folks. For 83, they are both doing pretty well. It's Henry's euchre playing moves that has me worried about her.
