Covington Holmes moves on to play Ft. Thomas Highlands on Saturday February 13 @ CovCath game time is 6pm.

Bulldogs looked rather bored in the 1st half and didnt exert much effort. They turned it up and pressed in the 3rd qtr and that was the difference in the game. St. Henry didnt handle it well and had several turnovers. The Crusaders look to only go 6 or 7 deep at best.

Holmes scored virtually all of their baskets either in the paint in the halfcourt set or on steals for layups. Englemon didnt even play for the Dogs either.

Should be a very good game on Saturday between the Birds and Bulldogs. I know the Birds have been preparing over the past 2 weeks for their tourney game.

Well, I will disagree with you on the first part of your post. I don't know if they were bored, but more out-competed, if that's even a saying. St. Henry was really getting after it, and basically did to Holmes in the first half, what Holmes did to St. Henry in the second half.

I'd say TOG's stat of a 21-5 3rd quarter shows they were ready to out-compete the Cru. Jim Goetz is as fine a coach as there is, but when Holmes plays happy, you can probably chalk that up as a victory.

Now, Highlands/Holmes is an interesting matchup. I would never say who I think will win, but it should be a really good game.

Best of luck to both.

Good to talk and see you in person again gryche11! :thumb:

Due to a conflict in my schedule, I won't be able to post the scores or the stats of the second round games of 2010 Frosh Regional Tourney.

Holmes did indeed look bored in the first half but came on very strong in the second half, and indeed St. Henry just couldn't keep up with the speed of Holmes player.

Holmes indeed dominated the 2nd half by out scoring St Henry by a score of 32/14 and thus, it wasn't much of a game once Holmes came out of the locker room in the second half.

Not a huge crowd but considering how cold and nasty it is outside, there was indeed a nice crowd on hand to see and root these young men on.

St Henry had a nice press in the 1st half, it seemed to slow down the Dogs and they also did a nice job of controlling the boards. Absolutely no defensive effort by the Bulldogs on a few drives in the 1st half.

MACLA you are correct, when the Dogs start achieving success they are very good. When a team takes it to them they play with no desire at all. The key to beating the Dogs is to make them shoot the ball outside 15 feet and attack them offensively. If you get a lead on them you must keep a lead. Once you give up the lead to their fullcourt press you are in trouble.

Why didn't Englemon play for Holmes tonight?

What kind of size does Holmes freshman team have?

I'd assume Peterson is their biggest player at 6'4?

Lastly, is Palmer's first name Quan?

Does Meiman play for St Henry frosh or is he just playing JV?

Well as you could read in my post, I agreed with gryche11. I was sitting directly behind the Holmes bench and they seemed to me at least, bored beyond belief in the 1st half.

Example to me at least was the young man (Hils) for St. Henry. On a couple of occasions he dribbled from one end to the other and scored without a single player trying to stop him.

Another example was during a time out and while the Holmes Coach was talking to his starters, the rest of the team sat in their chairs looking around the gym and talking amongst themselves.

In the second half the young men got up and stood around their coach and fellow players during a time out. Even the Holmes crowd near me were shaking there heads on how their kids were playing in the first half.

I do agree with your comment that the HHS vs. Holmes game will be a very good game and I am sorry that I am going to miss it.

Englemon did play for .09 seconds.:idunno:

Daquan Palmer is what I show on the stats and program.

#41 Couch is a big boy (football body but somewhat tall) but when he got into quick foul trouble, the Holmes Coach brought in #35 Scruggs who is football big but not tall, fullback type big.

Thanks TOG.

Scruggs is a member of the football team as well. Dressed and played some varsity this year as a frosh.

Peterson and Coston were both standouts out wide for the Varsity bulldogs this year as well on the gridiron. Two very good athletes.

I didn't see Engelmon get into the game, maybe that has to do with his .09 seconds of PT! In fact, he sat on the bench the whole game, with his ipod headset in his ear.

Unbelievable.

Meiman plays JV, no freshman.

AFI- Meimen plays JV as far as I know and hasnt played Frosh all year for St. Henry. They could have used him, they really lack depth on that team. Carr the tall kid in the middle has long arms and does a nice job, Kuebbing is tall and lanky but has some athleticism and Hils is a very nice point guard who goes strong to the hole.

Holmes' Englemon was on the bench in the 1st half with an Ipod earpiece in his ear. I couldnt believe it, in fact I thought it was some sort of ear guaze and that he may have been injured or something but all the Highlands boys who watched confirmed it was an IPOD because they saw the wire running down his jersey.
