No, a community park a few miles from the school. The school has exclusive right over use of the field, however.

 

 

Coop from the signs I have seen, it is a Boone County Park (AKA just like Central Park). I just wonder why the County Parks system didn't make Boone, Ryle, Conner or Cooper the same offer instead of making the BC BOE foot the bill for their fields!

I didn't realize that. That is interesting. I wonder then how it came to be that the field was under the exclusive control of WV? Or perhaps it is only during baseball season, though I was under the impression they WV baseball was the one who had to give permission to a summer team to use the field. Anyone know how it works? Not looking to start any arguments, just curious.

Waller Stephenson Mill Park

 

Use of these facilities only with permission from Walton–Verona Schools at 859–485–7721.

 

Waller Stephenson Mill Park is a 238 acre joint project between the Walton–Verona Schools and Boone County Parks. For the general public, there are 4.7 miles of unpaved trails running through old growth forest at the back of the property. The athletic facilities and fields at the front of the park are owned and operated by the Walton–Verona Schools and can be used only at certain times with their permission.

 

So County money was used to help build a complex for the use of WV Schools but yet can only be used at certain times and with only the schools permission?

 

So why wasn't the same offer given to the BC BOE? Sounds like a sweet deal for WV.

Who judges this stuff. They don't even have lights on the field. Would you rather have a nice field and suck at baseball or have a terrible field and be good? That seems to happen in the 8th region.

I'm not sure lights are all that important in making it qualify as a nice field. Perhaps I'm reading your comment incorrectly, but if you're saying WV sucks at baseball, that's not accurate either. They have their ups and downs like most schools - especially smaller ones - but they generally put out a nice team and McIntyre does a good job.

It's good to see WV's name in the newspaper, so congrats.

 

Now, I hate to rain on the parade but I guess I will. It's a nice baseball field but anyone that has seen plenty of baseball fields would realize that it may not even be the nicest field in Northern Kentucky let alone in the nation. Let's just say that it would be nice if the amount of time that was spent working on the field was also used toward developing baseball players. Why spend time on teaching kids how to run on to the field, or worry about what color hanger you use for your uniform or if you know how to pick up rocks from the infield....teach kids how to hit and run, teach them how to field the baseball, throw strikes or understand situations.

 

Focus more on the game then where it's played.

I do have to agree with the majority of the people, there is no way and I mean no way that Walton has the best field in the NATION. I can say that St. Henry and PRP fields are MUCH better. IMO there must be some sort of politics involved in the selecting of the winner. Espically for WV to win this award twice, you have to be kidding me! I would love to see someone disagree with me, and back it up with some pictures.

Maybe someone should check out what is involved in winning this award. Maybe all the coach has to do is submit the information. My next question is why would a coach not put in for this award. Seems to upset quite a few folks out there...so they need to do their homework. As for the complex being built by Boone County Parks...That I know for a fact is wrong. WV had to build the complex. The land in the back of the complex I believe is owned by the County. This leads me to believe that the land was purchased by both of them.

 

In my opinion WV has a nice complex, definitely not the best field in the area. As to the fact that time needs to be spent developing players...well what is there to say....last decent team was the 2005 team and they only had 3 or 4 good players then. :eek:
