For a school to be considered an All "A" school they count the number of students from freshmen to junior, if that number is under the required number then they qualify for All "A" for the upcoming school year... which is why schools like West Carter and Russell (esp. West) bounce back and forth from being All "A" or not... for the other comment made, Russell and West Carter have always been either 2A (past) or 3A (present) together even though West has been in the All "A" in the past for basketball... None of this class stuff makes any sense esp. since it qualifies schools for different things in different sports.

 

They don't do it like that anymore, there is no cutoff number of enrollment to be in the tournament. They simply invite the 125 smallest schools in the state by enrollment, if any if those schools decline to play (which obviously do!!!) then they move to the 126th smallest and so on until they have 125 schools in the tournament!!

I don't think we can start comparing basketball and football. 6 classes in football. Only 8 teams in the entire state don't make the playoffs (of course that's an exaggeration, but you catch my drift). All the confusion would be gone if they'd just call it what it is, small school classic versus all A classic.

Then neither should 1/3 of the teams in it. And frankly judging from the effort at Elliott the other night, they didn't compete in it.

 

Sounds like your issue is a Russell thing.

This tournament has evolved, good or bad, to what it is. Anytime there is a competition and a trophy, expect it to change people and their attitude. This tournament has been a huge success but is slowly leaving what it's original intent was to be.......a showcase for the smaller school players that didn't have a chance to play in the Sweet 16 due to larger and better competition. JMO

How would it impact the invitations if one region had, say, 11 teams that qualified enrollment wise and another region were to have only 4-6 that qualified to participate?

They play it with however many they have in each region, doesn't matter. This region would have only had 6 had West and Russell not been added this year!
