1. Forward Pass Interference

2. Roughing the Pass

3. Roughing the Kicker or Holder

4. Roughing the Snapper

 

There are four offensive fouls that result in loss of down:

1. Illegally handing the ball forward

2. Ilegal forward pass

3. Forward Pass Interference

4. Illegal touching of a forward pass by an ineligible

So OPI is always a loss of down?

 

Is that true in NCAA/NFL?

No but a lot of people think that they are.

Some people think ALL personal fouls are automatic first downs. Not sure where they got that idea.

I always thought that intentional grounding was a loss of down penalty.

Watching football on Sunday! Also, since personal fouls are 15 yarders, that gets you a first down most of the time anyway, just not automatically.

They are in college, that creates a lot of HS confusion. Who can decipher pro rules.

Offensive Interference 15 and a loss of down is a terrible rule. It should be 15 yards only or it should simply be an incomplete pass. The penalty for OPI is the most severe penalty in the book, more than personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct.
