The Oldham County Lady Colonels head to Lawrenceburg on Friday to face the red-hot Anderson County Lady Cats.

Oldham County has been erratic in its first month under new head coach Stephen Mullins, generally able to score a lot of points (leading the region in scoring average), but struggling to hold opponents' scoring down (allowing the most points per game in the region). Emily Lape - a pre-season top 5 regional pick - has returned to the Oldham lineup full-time and provides a premier inside offensive presence. She has had the hot hand of late for the Lady Colonels, and had 27 vs. Gallatin County. Emily Melton has been one of the region's hottest outside threats, and Jessica Leanhart is shaping up to be one of the region's best all-around freshmen, averaging a solid 8 ppg and 4 rebounds off the bench, while also starting some games.

Anderson County has the youngest team in school history - and may ultimately go down (if not this year, then in the next couple of years) as one of the school's best. Despite starting middle schoolers, freshmen, and sophomores, Anderson already has impressive victories over Lafayette (a team better than their record implies), Ballard, and Owen County while losing to Butler by just 6. With sophomore Sydney Brown in the middle, Anderson may have the best pure post player in the girls' 8th. Eriel McKee is a dynamic slasher, and Tori Yeaste (the team's lone senior) and Makenzie Cann (8th grade) are a great guard duo. Anderson is undefeated in Lawrenceburg (3-0) this season.

This should be a very interesting game (weather permitting!).

For those who cannot attend, you can listen to it live (or as an archive) online on the Pegasus Sports Network (http://www.pegasussportsky.com). Simply click on the Oldham or Anderson logos...

You can't hear yourself think in Anderson's gym if the crowd is right so I give the advantage to the Lady Bearcats.

They have a nice home court advantage, that's for sure...

I hope they get to play it. Weather doesn't look good.

Oldham looks to be improving and certainly could be a factor come march. A statement win over Anderson on friday might just be their coming out party. It will be interesting to see Lape vs Andersons front line. Anderson might have the toughest 4/5 combo in the region.

Should be a great game.

In essence, this game will feature youngsters vs. youngsters. They might as well familiarize themselves with each other now, as these players will be locking horns for several seasons to come. Still, there will be a few seniors gracing the hardwood Friday night. The weather factor may indeed play a major role: 1) will teams be able to practice on Thursday with school being out for each team's school district; 2) will both be in/out of school on Friday, and if so, will permission be granted for them to play?

Oldham could have been the most experienced team in the region, but a few veterans who could have returned didn't. One decided to concentrate on another sport, another moved, etc.

Oldham will likely start three seniors - Pehlke, Lape, and Brooke Leanhart - with the other two starters being a junior and sophomore. But the top subs are a freshman, 8th grader, and sophomore, and they play about as much as the starters, meaning Oldham frequently has an extremely young team on the court.

Of course, with four returning starters back, Oldham should be counted as more experienced than most in the young 8th. But that hasn't been an advantage they have been able to exploit early in the year, as they have been mastering the new coach's system, which they all have zero experience running. It may come into play more later. And other teams - South Oldham and Owen County, for example - actually have more returning starters.

Mike does oldham have a no school, no play policy?

From what I was told, it will be oldhams call on the game tomm. If they are willing to travel the game will be on....

I don't think so. But from the looks of the roads and the weather forecast, I'm not optimistic. The roads aren't horrible, but the temperature is and they are going to remain very slick.

Just got official word that the game is cancelled.
