JackKlompus
The reasons why you will never see the KHSAA mandating this is because of 2 basic reasons. 1. Small schools do not have the kids to fill the rosters if they had to offer every sport 2. Money. Most schools do not have the finances for all the sports. You have to have facilities for them, uniforms, coaches, etc.
Tough as Nails
That dosen"t seem right . That the football coach could influence whether or not another sport is offered at his school . Surely Beechwood has more than enough male athletes to field a very competitive soccer team, athletes that do not want to play football . Doesn't seem right, but it happens. Why do you think Beechwood only has a girls track team? The football coach wants the boys lifting weights all spring and track might interfere with that. onetoya
To answer the orignal question. NO! So every public school would be forced to have swimming, tennis, golf.........There is an exception by the KHSAA made for student athletes that want to play a sport that is not offered at their school. The Professor
The area I live in would have a hard time starting up a football program. The cost would be one factor, but the sizes of the schools would be another. Lee, Owsley, Wolfe, Menifee, and Jackson counties are the only high schools in their respective counties, but only one of these might have the means to begin a football program, and that's Jackson County. They could probably generate the revenue, and their enrollment is around 700. But with the others it would be difficult to do.
