Buckhorn has a really nice team. They have two solid guards and a very good young big man. This was a huge win not only for Buckhorn, but also for the 14th. In years past I believe the 13th has been stronger. That may not be true this season with Buckhorn beating one of the top 3 teams in the 13th. I would love to see someone take the top 3 or 4 teams in those regions each year, and have like a 13th vs 14th region challenge.

I watched Buckhorn play at Rupp and would never have thought they could beat SL.

The Rupp game was a scrimmage and I am pretty sure Buckhorn was testing different lineups and making sure that all of their players got some time on Rupp's floor. This strategy may have lead to your assumption.

That is called the WYMT, those teams are asked to come and play in the tourney every year, but most of them decline. It tries to get the top teams from the 13,14,and 15 regions, sometimes they come and sometimes they don't. This year only Knox and Clay agreed to come from the 13th. They got Shelby Valley from the 15th, and Hazard, Perry, Buckhorn and Knott from the 14th. Should be a great tourney.

For a post player to get 24 and 17 on St. Johns is pretty impressive.

 

St. John struggled to guard Day because Day is an outside shooter/slasher. St. John is not comfortable out of the lane, so when Day got out their he was able to get his 3 pt shot off easily and when St. John did come out a little bit, Day is a whole lot quicker and went right around him. He will be hard to match up with because of this and will have a great year in the 14th region.

Buckhorn has a pretty good schedule and they will improve too, should be a great District tourney this year.
