Lottery a Sin?

Featured Replies

Ladies, be careful...I have some verses for you too. I'm 56 years old I know the difference. I put this thread out there and I am being honest and kinda knew I might take a few hits.

Is Judging others a Sin? Like I said I have some verses for you too. You have none.

IMO, judging others is a sin. I feel it falls under the sin of Pride.

Ladies, my mistake I'm sorry, it was real late coming home from the Male/Rocks game and I read the wrong L, it should have been for LRCW, for give me...here I'll add this. :notworthy: Does he favor Obama?

LRCW, hope you see my mistake, my post was for your judgemental statement to me as you as if "I'm coveting money"

Lets look at matthew 7:1 where Jesus talks directlying about judging others, and I'm not judging you on this just pointing scripture as you did.

Now to address your verses

Ecclesiastes 5:10 old testament passage and we are under the new law of Jesus not Moses. Galatians 3:25, but lets see it anyway, I agree with it and have everything I need.... 3 sons in/thru with college verse doesn't fit my family or me.

Luke 16:13 I only serve God, again I do not fit this verse. 1st Samual 16:7

1st Timothy 6:10..I cetrainly have not wandered from my Faith, I already have worked and have all I need, not a good fit with me.

Proverbs again OT, which is great for our learning but our authority comes from Jesus Christ. Lazy hands/ You don't know me but I'll share a little. retired from the railroad after 35 years, mostly on 3rd shift with tuesday/Wednesdays off. Missed 2 days of work from 1979/1993. One due to my Mom passing. Lazy? Maybe a Lotto seaker who wants to quit work, not me.

I do not covet anything, its a sin.

LRCW, Jesus never coveted wine either but he made it, which I much rather see him buy a ticket than make wine.

Football saturday is starting, but thanks for your imput. Again I put some things on here knowing I probaby should just left it alone, but thats not me.

AL, I'm not judging you. You asked if playing the lottery were a sin, and asked for verses that backed it up. I tried to do that. I find it amusing when people pull out the "Don't judge me" card to try and justify something that they do. Why do you play the lottery Larry? I'm very interested to know why you play if it's not for the hope of winning the money.

Easy, I win Jesus wins, or his Church wins I might say.

I used the "judging issue" because of the pointing out to me and then using scriptures that seemed directed to me. But hey, I'm over it.

I researched this thread before I posted it just to get imput, but here is the real reason.

Last week at the local store I didn't buy a ticket but was scanning two that I bought in the past. I'm standing there and my Southern Baptist preacher walks into the store and waves at me.

The nite before we had a HUGE meeting about our church having Finance problems and were cutting programs. People cried during the meeting.

Preacher didn't address what I was doing at the store and maybe he didn't know what I was doing.

I'm an adult and thats what I would tell him and thats all I need to say to him or anyone.

You were the one that was asking for the scriptures.:lol: I think it's great that you would give 100% of the cash to your church AL, but if Jesus can take two pieces of fish, and 5 loaves of bread and feed thousands, don't you think he can take the little bit of money you play on the lottery, and use it to help thousands of people?

To me, playing the lottery (in moderation, of course) is no different that buying chances on a raffle, and I have seen several religious orginizations holding raffles. In both cases, you are buying a ticket/chance to have your numbers picked to win a prize.

The key here, IMO, is in moderation. If someone has a couple of extra dollars and wishes to spend them on games of chance, such as lottery, then it shouldn' be given a 2nd thought. The problem is those who have such an addictive personality that they give up necessities and/or responsibilities trying to chase the prize that these games offer.

Doing things in moderation goes for many things other than lottery/gambling. Alcohol, eating, etc. are all things we are warned about. But, I am getting off of subject.

Do I think lottery is a sin? No, as long as the person who is playing is plays responsibly. (So that's why they use that phrase on the commercials, lol.)
