Like I've said before, you can't blame that on the UFC. Blame it on the judges, who have absolutely nothing to do with the UFC.

105 and 106 are not bad cards as far as matchups go, just no title fights.

 

The fight is probably moved to 108, which is LOADED.

UFC needs to revamp their scoring system. The 10-9 round scoring is not the best way to judge MMA fights, IMO. They should judge the fight after it's completed.

 

I told my wife that I bet the judges scored the first three rounds for Machida because Shogun didn't overwhelm him with power, and they were operating on the assumption that you give the champion the benefit of the doubt if there's no big flurry of damage (too bad Rampage didn't get those judges). So, presto, first two rounds go to Machida...third round is the only one of the five that he might have actually won...and the fight is essentially over. By the time it became obvious that Shogun was executing his game plan to perfection and wearing Machida out, it was too late thanks to this dumb scoring system.

 

So, reading online after the fight, I find that two of the three judges scored the first three rounds for Machida. Barring a KO or sub, the fight is over.

 

Also, Yahoo had an article blaming Shogun and his corner for thinking they were ahead and not being aggressive in the last couple of rounds. Was the writer a relative of the judges? There was no blame to be placed on Shogun. He executed his plan to perfection and got robbed of the 205 pound title. It wouldn't have mattered what he did in the last two rounds...the fight was over. At best he could have lost a split decision instead of unanimous.

 

Hopefully, Shogun can KO Machida next time around and leave no doubt.

I don't think the UFC is all that worried about their American PPV numbers for 105. Look at the card...it's freaking loaded with English fighters and I'm sure that's what the UFC is after.

What happened to Shogun is basically the same thing that happened to Oscar De La Hoya on several occasions throughout his career. He would dominate the first half of the fight and back off the last few rounds thinking he had it won. The judges saw it differently. The only difference is, I didn't see Shogun backing off the last few rounds. He came in with a game plan and stuck with it. The whole thought of it makes me angry. I'm starting to turn green.
