Graves has a very good defense which keeps them in alot of games and the kids play very hard, but, there offense is pretty vanilla and at times they have a hard time putting up points and I expect that to be the case against playoff caliber 6a teams. I do expect them to win at home against Nelson, but, I don't see them getting much further. I don't know alot about Greenwood(likely 2nd round opponent), but, if they're a high scoring team or a big play team, they should handle Graves, but, if they're a grind it out, rely on there defense type team, then that could be a tough game.

Greenwood's kinda both. I've seen Greenwood's offense perform very well, and I've seen it nearly lose games, and I've seen it lose games. They lost to Franklin-Simpson pretty much on the strength of 6 turnovers and two bad snaps on punts. They nearly lost to Central Hardin because they had 7 turnovers, many unforced. But big plays, they hit those pretty much at least once a game. Against Nelson County they had a 70 yard or so pass right before halftime to put them up two scores, and helped take their heart. Nehemiah Mkanta has something like 4-5 kick returns for TDs and several bombs for scores against teams like Meade County. But Graves is usually solid, and I anticipate that being a very good game. I think Greenwood will be favored, but by no means a lock. Their defense is very stout, the offense needs to manage the game.

 

I think it'll either be Greenwood going to Henderson County or Meade County coming to Greenwood for the region finals. Greenwood HAS to win it this year. This is the class they've been building towards, and they may never have this type of opportunity again. Consider this: if they played in 4A this year (as they are expected to be after redistricting), they could've been third in their district, having lost to AC/S and Franklin-Simpson.

They were supposedly a top 10 team in the eyes of some rankings, and considered a threat to win the district. They ultimately beat only North Hardin in the district, and that is the only 6A team they defeated. They scheduled no non-district games against teams from their class, and their wins are over teams that are a combined 20-34 (20-28 w/o the losses to Central Hardin). Meade County ran them off the field, and Greenwood turned it over a zillion times and still won. Color me extremely unimpressed, and I consider them a fraud relative to what some were talking them up to be.

 

The Henderson County QB situation may have an effect on the game, but I expect the Colonels to take the game.

I never bought into the top 10 talk, if you want to consider them a fraud based on that, then go ahead. They're an improved team, and two of their district losses came by five points or less.

 

It wouldn't have shocked me to see them finish second in District 1.

 

Bottom line ... District 1 is weak. Got swept badly by the east side of Louisville last year (no shock there) and it isn't inconceivable that they could get swept again next weekend.

What are your picks in the region west? Who do you see advancing and coming out of it to be the sacrificial lamb to St. X?

Thanks for the insight Dragon...I've heard very little about Greenwood this year, but, they've managed a nice and quiet 7-2 record and those 2 losses aren't really too bad a losses...One thing for certain, one of the 8 will certainly be the sacraficial lamb to St X, as none are even close to that caliber a team...Will most definately get ugly in round 4, but, alot of competitve games till then...

I can't disagree with this. This is probably as bad as I have seen these teams all in the same year. Henderson hasn't been consistent enough to be a really good team. Their defense looks like the best in the state one game then flat awful the next. It really doesn't seem to matter about the opponent either. As for the offense, what can I say. If I were playing Henderson I would put 9 in the box and dare them to beat me in the air.
