Pretty sure the NBA has a rule that all of its arenas have to hold somewhere in the 17-18K neighborhood.

 

I just did a quick CTRL + F search of the NBA Rules and didn't find anything.

That does seem about right, but for some reason I thought I had been told the arena wouldn't be big enough to support a NBA team.

The largest NBA arena is just over 22K.

Here are the only NBA Arena Guidelines I've found so far, and it has nothing to do with the size of the arena.

 

It does limit the size of your beer to 24 oz. though. :irked:

That's one heck of a beer during a game. Talk about 2 handing it! I bet it's expensive too.

I think you're looking in the wrong area. Try checking on qualifications for a city to bid for a team.

How about having a D-league team for a little while to gauge the interest and whether or not the area would be able to support a team?

 

Sadly, I think the d-league would have a much better chance at succeeding than the NBA team.

I don't think your going to find something written in stone for that.

Only way that would work is if local players were on the team IMO. The only teams it would make sense for would be Indiana and Cleveland. I highly doubt I would go to any of those games.

A few years ago I thought the D-League had real potential, particularly when they implemented the One & Done Rule in College.

 

I thought that the Big shoe companies were going to infiltrate the college ranks and lure the 1 & done players to the draft, to the D-league for a year, and then to the NBA. It seems as if Europe has taken advantage of it instead...
