Hmmm I guess if Somerset knocks off NCC (if you consider that an upset) looks like this is the year.

Over the past 30 years, it's happened four times:

 

2001 - Rockcastle Co. went on to be defeated by Boyle Co. 49-14

 

1991 - Bell Co. went on to defeat Meade Co. 35-13

 

1985 - Belfry went on to be defeated by Paducah Tilghman 29-14

 

1979 - Belfry went on to be defeated by Franklin Simpson 33-0

 

In three of these four years, the eastern bracket has been soundly defeated by the western.

 

Draw your own conclusions. ;)

 

 

I know in 1990 Ashland did not defeat a NKY team in the semi's but did go on to defeat rather easily a Lincoln Co. team for the state 3A Championship. :D
