Beechwood 55 Walton Verona 0

It was 14-0 after the first quarter and 35-0 at halftime, but Beechwood had to work for all that. It wasn't a run up and down the field with no contest type of game. Walton Verona impressed me for basically a first year varsity team. They have some size, a few kids with good speed and are well coached. I expect them to win a district game somewhere along the line this year.

For Beechwood, Rigdon was probably the leading rusher with two long runs, one for a TD and one where he went out of bounds at about the 5. I would guess 5 carries for 120 yards for Rigdon. Joe Colosimo probably went for around 100 yards on maybe 15 carries. Beechwood is moving players around and searching for the defensive lineup that they think will best position them for a title run. The defense looked the best it has all year.

Another tough day for the men in blue. Better days are ahead of them. One positive was Corey Taylor for WV running for 114 yards.

I assume Taylor is #15? I agree that he looked good. What grade is he in?

Where does Walton play their home games?

They have a new sports complex right off of I-71 Verona exit. Very nice complex. Turf field. Very nice track around the field. A grass practice field next door. Tennis courts. Baseball field there I believe also. It is a nice big sports complex.

What was up with the on side kick up 35-0 right before half time?

I don't think that was onside. He kicked the ball way too hard for it to be an onside kick. It was a squib kick that happened to hit one of the front line guys. If you noticed, Beechwood was working on different kicks with each kickoff. They kicked deep a couple of times. They tried a couple of short placement kicks. So on the last one they tried the squib kick. Beechwood's kicker can consistently put the ball inside the 5 with good hang time so it was obvious to those of us who have seen Beechwood's games that they were working on other things in the kicking game. When Rash has games well in hand, he often will do things to prepare his team in game situations for things they will do in the playoffs. It may not make sense within the context of the game because it has nothing to do with the current game. It is about getting game experience for the playoffs.

Corey is a senior this year. He is a talented runner and wants to get the ball. He was hurt earlier this year and has just got back to top form.

And if you look at The Sarge's avator that would be the middle of Walton's field.

Great! Should be a good game.

It was supposed to be a squib kick beyond the front line. Rash questioned it to his kicker and must not have gotten the answer he was looking for because the kicker sat out the rest of the game.
