Ryle put in the 2's again very early - This time, the #2s on offense played the entire 2nd half. On defense, Ryle played their 2's in the 3rd quarter while Dixie stayed with thier first team offense. Ryle had to return their #1 defense to the field for the 4th quarter. Dixie actually had negative yardage against Ryle's 1's.

 

With the #1 offense on the field for Ryle only in the first half, #24 Pulice ran rampant - over 200 yds, 2 rushing and 1 throwing TD on a half back pass. #12 Brandon Fightmaster turned in a great performance with 2 other touchdowns on misdirection plays. #44 Travis Pavy also chipped in with a receiving and rushing TD.

IMO, one of the best but will never know if they are outright the best. Big school playoffs will be interesting and I expect close games.

If Ryle isn't the best Freshman team right now who is? 6-0 with wins over CocCath, Sk and Highlands, we'll see how they do against Boone next week. Maybe Cooper claims a stake?

I went to the Cooper vs Scott County game last night. Cooper proved themself against a very good team. But they play a lot of players both ways. I think with Ryles depth Ryle would pull away late in the game. It sure would be nice if they could play each other after the playoffs. :dancingpa

Cooper will be the clear favorite in both games but those two teams will be much more competitive than the other teams in the small schools freshman league. Holmes has some size, speed and talent but is a little rough around the edges. Beechwood will be a solid, very well coached opponent featuring two of the best freshmen I have seen all year in Nussbaum and Erdman. If Cooper blows those two teams away, then they will have a strong case for being considered the best freshman team in N. Ky. Unfortunately, it won't be decided on the field this year.

Some one on the Cooper vs Scott County thread said that Cooper will not be playing #5 at the freshmen level any more this year. If thats true they would not be in the running for the best team in NKY. (freshmen) By far he is the best player on the team. IMO.

All due respect to Voice of Reason and to Cooper because they do have some very good athletes, but there is no way they would be in the discussion this year. They have not played the upper tear schedule compared to teams like Ryle, CCH, Highlands, SK, etc. If Cooper blows two small schools away that would be great but it is being decided on the field between the 4 schools mentioned above. Cooper should have played up where they belong. Until they do, nothing to discuss.

What should be discussed is who thinks they can stop RB #24 Tanner Pulice from Ryle in the playoffs? He has run over everybody at the Freshman level, was the feature back the other night in Ryle's JV game (where he had 2 TDs) and I'm told he was practicing with the varsity due to the many illnesses at Ryle. IMO, he's the best Frosh back in NKY - slightly better than #24 from Cov Cath Bobby Beatrice and those two are way above everyone else.

 

Until someone gets that answered, Ryle is #1 in NKY.

 

That's what this board is about, opinions, and everybody has one. I'm sure he is a fine back and he will probably see varsity time in the back field his senior year when Elliott is gone. It's fine to leave the kids of Cooper out of the equation due to their schedule but there are three backs at Cooper (Centers, Morris, Collins) that are as good as any in NKY. Of course, that is MY opinion, along with many others who have watched them through the years. Ryle has had a great year so far and if they can beat Cov Cath and HHS again in the playoffs, there will be much to be proud of. Cooper has sent the word out to play Ryle and others in NKY from the "big school" division and were turned down so they got a very good Scott County team to come play. It's not the kids fault that a decision was made to put them in the small school division so they play who they are told to play. If your that confident in Ryle, then have your coach reconsider on a game. :thumb:

FYI - Beechwood won the big school championship last year ... basically without being seriously challenged by anyone. So I wouldn't totally discount the small school. Of course, that was last year and every season is completely new in freshman ball. But I don't think there is a huge difference between the top 4 teams in the small school division and the big school teams.

Wow, where to even start... You are right, if Cooper ends the season without a loss, they do have the right to claim they are the best "small school" in N. KY. And to put to bed the idea that Ryle doesn't want to play Cooper, that's not exactly right. The night of the Tom Potter Classic (Friday8/14/09), Rile Varsity played Dixie. Ryle freshman were supposed to play the Dixie freshman within the time frame set forth by the KHSAA (3hr. window). The Dixie freshman coach said that they would not be ready with only two weeks preparation leading up to the scrimmage. The Ryle freshman head coach contacted the Cooper freshman head coach to schedule a scrimmage on the Ryle varsity practice field, Cooper agreed. The day before the scrimmage, Thrusday, Cooper contacted Ryle and said that they would not come to Ryle to play the game. Ryle freshman head coach asked the Ryle varsity head coach if they could play at Cooper, he said they could. Again, the game was set to play Thursday at Cooper, the Cooper freshman coach agreed but called back and said that the Cooper Varsity coach was not sure about the KHSAA rules and would not allow the scrimmage to take place. I have a pretty solid source that this is exactly what took place. My point is, it is not Ryle that is not willing to play, they tried and it did not happen. Ryle has a full schedule of 8 games plus the playoffs and couldn't fit Cooper in, after the fact. Were they supposed to drop one of their scheduled games to set up a game with Cooper? Don't think so.

 

As far as "big school" "small school" is concerned. Is each school supposed to decide weather to play up or down each year based on expected talent level, or do you play in the category of the size of your school? What makes more sense? I have heard this argument in several threads.

Could they or could they not play an extra game at the end of the year? I don't know? I think their would be a lot of people show up to watch this game. I've seen both teams play this year and IMO Ryle would win. But for Ryle fans to say even if Cooper go undefeated they shouldn't be in the discussion is wrong. To say small schools are not as good as big schools is funny. Just look at last year. Beechwood a very small school ran all over Ryle.
