The KHSAA will continue to offer a slow-pitch state tournament...for six teams.

East Ridge has a booming Little League fastpitch softball program, so do Paintsville/Johnson County, Magoffin County has one but is only so-so, and Belfry might still have a program (somebody correct me if I'm wrong). Everybody else is playing without significant support (including defending 15th Region champ Shelby Valley and longtime 15th Region powerhouse Pikeville).

 

Over in the 14th Region, Whitesburg (Letcher County) has a good youth softball program.

:thumb: That is where it starts! One of the reasons that both North & South Laurel's fastpitch softball programs have done so well, is the feeder system from the little leagues. Last year, North won the minor league & junior league state titles while South's little league was only 1 game from a state title. The year before South's minor league team was 1 win from a state title. It is no coincidence that both schools are in the top 10 for alltime wins (NL #1, SL #10) in KHSAA history and have both produced Miss Softball winners and collegiate players! They rely on those programs!
