Somerset 40 Russell County 20

Good job S-set. A very good ball team, RC had a shot to get back in to it at 34-20 but a wacky punt play where the punter punted on about the 20 bobbled the punt RC didn't attack the punter threw for a first down. I thought this killed us for any kind of comeback! I felt pretty good the way RC played to be as young as we are but S-set is a VERY good football team and will win a lot of football games this year!

Somerset did some nice things tonight. D played really good for the Jumpers, really only gave up two big plays. A very nicely thrown fade by RC for a touchdown and a excellently executed middle screen that also went for a touchdown. RC picked up a couple of first downs on some nice passes in the second half. Jumper D overall did a very good job against Laker rushing attack.

Nice game Jumpers, enjoy and get back to work next week. Danville Ads come to town next Friday.

Good win for the Briar Jumpers. The defense played really well tonight. However, the special teams were not good. There was a blocked extra-point, a missed extra-point, a botched punt snap that the punter somehow turned into a first down, and allowed a long kickoff return (with a personal foul tacked on) that set up Russell County's 3rd score. Those things have to get ironed out to play with the Admirals next week. The offense moved the ball and, except for the interception that the Lakers returned for a touchdown on the opening drive, took care of the ball. Good win though in a tough place to play against a team that beat the Jumpers last year. Russell County hung tough and made a game of it after falling behind 28-6--good luck to the Lakers the rest of the way.

Another very good defensive showing for us. Three strong games in a row on defense and by the big boys in the trenches on the o-line

:thumb: Very nice defensive showing. Russell County really wasn't able to drive the ball at all. One of the scores came on a perfectly executed screen pass and was 50+ yards and the other came on a nice fade pattern after a long kick return aided by a penalty. Other than that the defense was very solid again. The offense also stepped it up a notch. Erik Manning made some really nice throws, both to his wideouts and to his new tight end Clayton Stringer.

Nice win for the Jumpers! Now next week is the big test. SHS has not beat Danville since 1997 (I think). This year could be a great opprotunity for the Jumpers to end that streak.

Thanks AJG. I was going by memory and the last one I remembered was the playoff game to win region. We got beat in the semis by Hancock Co. I guess that was 1999 not 1997.
