Nelson had leads of 10-0 and 17-7. Marion got to within 17-14, but the Cardinals scored 14 unanswered to close it out.

I'd be curious about anyone's thoughts who saw this game. Marion is Bardstown's opponent next week. Bardstown stayed with Nelson pretty well, so I'd like to see how they fare. I know Marion is very, very tough.

I was told NC got their first two scores on a Quentin Brooks TD reception and a Daniel Mudd FG. After MC cut it to 10-7, Josh Pride returned the ensuing kickoff for a score.

 

Tyler Martinez had a long TD run in the second half. Not sure how they got their other score.

Correcting on this:

 

NC had actually went into the third quarter with a 17-0 lead (Pride's TD was actually an 85-yard punt return), but MC got a short TD run and a punt return for a TD to cut it to 17-14.

 

Marion looked to be in business when NC had a flag on the kickoff return back them up to their own 15, and had to punt from their own end zone. But Marion was busted for roughing the kicker, which later led to a 70-yard Martinez TD run. After Andy Clowser got his second INT of the game on the next drive, Martinez rewarded Clowser with a 21-yard scoring pass to ice it.

Cards still sound like they need to work on kick coverage, but other than that they're rolling right now. Good to see Clowser come up big, he's a solid multi-sport athlete.

Marion's defense is big and strong. They kept NC in tough spots all game. Bardstown vs Marion shoud be a good one.

Marion co has a good football team if they continue to improve they will make some noise in the 4A west this season.

The NC defense was good against Bardstown too, but big plays and 2 kick returns kept the score close.

NC is not looking bad. I hope they keep it up. I hear that the coaches are focusing on Special Teams this week. Hope to see another win by the Cards next week.
