Saint Xavier 61 Lexington Catholic 0 (JV)

The young Tigers looked extremely sharp on both offense and defense against the Knights tonight at St. X. After scoring 28 in the first quarter and 19 in the 2nd quarter, the running clock rule was involked in the 2nd half. Tiger sophomore QB, Alex Mattingly, led the Tiger attack through the air and on the ground. I don't remember any single player scoring more than 2 touchdowns, as they spread the wealth. :ylsuper:

Despite the score, Lexington Catholic played a freshman (#14) at quarterback who displayed an outstanding throwing arm and scrambling ability. With continued improvement, this young man will be a force someday soon at the varsity level for the Knights. :thumb:

Great job Tigers, a perfect way to start the season.

How about some credit to LC for 'manning up" to take on the Tigers.

4a vs. 6a.

Outnumbered about 3 or 4 to 1 ??? Wouldnt you say ????

NO question X with an outstanding squad - but not really a true test - wouldnt you say ??

X was X tonight. LC was....somewhat intimidated is probably the best word. Some of the freshmen that made their first trip to Tiger territory where worried about the 300 lb players and the 200 players that would be on the sideline...

The level of play by St. X in JV games is outstanding. It is obvious that it is a highly competative environment and every kid wants to do the absolute best on every single play, regardless of the score. Example is on passes - Kyle Bolin was putting passes in catchable spots on a lot of throws but the receivers were not coming back for them or not reaching out to grab them at the peak in many cases. The X defenders where playing tight and challenged every pass. Receivers can not let the ball come to them when playing the Tigers.

Good assessment. Dont think X 'ran it up" -- think as you said every kid who got in wanted to do their best. Heck of a program. All obviously want to contribute.

Kyle Bolin will be a good one. Kyle and St.X JR Daylen Hall played baseball together for a few years in Lexington for the Kentucky Bobcats. Kyle will be a D-1 prospect. I will watch is progress with great interest.

X just has too much depth, power and strength for us. A great learning experience for our guys though. A bright spot is certainly Kyle Bolin. This young man has a lot of talent. Great arm strength, accuracy and mobility. He will be a great QB for us the next few years and his attitude and play resembles that of LexCath ex-QB and current UofL starter Justin Burke. I'm really excited to see him grow and develop over the next four years. He should be the next in a long line of great QBs to come out of Lexington Catholic.:ylsuper:

From what I can remember, this JV team only beat Lexington Catholic last year by 1 or 2 touchdowns. I believe it was a much closer game. The Tigers looked sharp last night and much more confident than last year. Congrats Tigers.

Hope that this isn't any indication on how it will be on Friday.

Me too! I just don't think LC has the physical strength to match up with X.

Most of LC's JV team from last year are now varsity starters. There are several freshman playing on LC's JV team this year.

The question wasn't how many JV's were still playing JV, but rather how many of Lexington Catholic's freshmen team from last year were playing on the JV team this year?

As noted by StX Tiger Mom, St. X.'s freshmen team last year only defeated Lexington Catholic's freshmen team by 1 or 2 TDs last season. That is a big scoring difference from last year to this year with just one year additional maturity in the squads.

Personally, I would presume that most of the good sophomores for the Knights are not playing JV this season, but are being saved for varsity, and I know also that Lexington Catholic is supplementing their JVs with some freshmen players.
