July 12, 200917 yr Author Through round one, GSP wins the round easily. Alves gave up his back mid way through the first round, but was able to slip out. Rest of the round kind of un eventful as they continue to measure each other up. Alves can not win this thing if it is on the ground, he also has limits on his kicks being GSP great wrestling skills make Alves real accessible for the takedown.
July 12, 200917 yr Author Round two, more of the same. GSP on top, Alves on the bottom. Alves is going to have to do something special if he wants to turn this one around, so far it has been all GSP.
July 12, 200917 yr Author Round Three Had much more standup than the first two. Until about the last 40 seconds, GSP had only took him down once and that was just for a few seconds. However, GSP knocked Alves down and started hammering away on him, it looked as if he might have finished the fight but Alves hung on for dear life and survived the round.
July 12, 200917 yr Author Fourth Round Alves showed some life, got out of St. Pierre's attempt at an arm bar and ended up on top of GSP for a good two minutes. Fist time GSP had been in that situation in a couple years, and although Alves reigned down shots, none of which done much damage. GSP is an all around beast, his guard was super impressive for someone not usually in that situation.
July 12, 200917 yr Author Round Five Fight goes the distance, should be unanimous in favor of St. Pierre, thus giving him six straight victories. Nine total takedowns for GSP as he owned the fight. Alves hung in there just nothing he could do against the impeccable wrestling and grappling skills of GSP. 50-45, 50-44, 50-45, St. Pierre.
July 12, 200917 yr Author Fight really makes me want to see a Anderson Silva/ George St. Pierre fight. I don't see any of the 170 guys even giving him a fight at this point. Pierre hurt his groin mid way through the fight but still dominated. Sila/GSP at a catch weight or with St. Pierre moving up would be a UFC classic IMO.
July 12, 200917 yr Author Mir/Lesnar II coming up in a few. After watching their first fight several times today, I stand by my prediction of Lesnar. Brock owned Frank in the first matchup and Mir won out of pure desperation. He still won and I guess that is all that matters, but anyone familiar with the fight has to admit he won out of desperation and not much else.

July 12, 200917 yr Author Wow, what a post fight interview. That was intense. I cannot believe Lesnar had about zero fans there tonight, but he pretty much showed them he didn't care. For those who saw it, how classic was that post fight interview?
