I have eaten at Hall's on the River and their food and beer cheese is excellent.

It is the small restaurant at Southwind golf course. It is on New Boonesboro Rd, just outside of Winchester, on the way to Richmond.

Welsh Rarebit is a spicy cheese sauce, I can see where you would think that.

We had our first Beer Cheese festival here in Clark Co today. I was telling a friend in Henderson Co about it. She had never heard of beer cheese....:eek:. Just wondering how many of you all have eaten it, your favorite, or just any thoughts? I have been told that Beer Cheese originated here in Clark Co when Johnny Allman had his restaurant here.

 

Johnny Allmans' was my favorite restaurant back in the day! I loved the sirloin steak dinner.

I was in Winchester and attended the beer cheese festival this weekend. It was a nice time and I really enjoyed the food. Much thanks to the UK Alumni Association chapter for selling beer: it was hot out and a cold Coors Light really hit the spot at about 4:30 that afternoon. If they make this an annual festival, I'll probably come back next year.

Food was great. You had James that had the fired chicken, he runs a restaurant called Breaking Bread, he was also the owner of former restaurant Jazz Man's. Also Forest Grove had some great rib eye sandwiches, they have a grocery and only grill out on Friday nights 5-9. Did you get a chance to go to South Main Grocery? Was a thread on it here a few weeks ago.

I've been to several restaurants in Winchester, but a lot of the city's eateries aren't open on weekends, which is the only time I ever get down there. Winchester's a great town and I always look forward to my visits.

I sure will. This is the first year they have had it. But it went over so well and was really bigger than they had expected, and so plans are hopeful to make this a annual event.

Is very good. I haven't been to Bartons yet. We don't eat out much. Hall's is great in the summer and eat on the out door deck.

If you like a good steak, you have to try Southwind. Grill on the patio is only open on Wed. Fri and Sat. Nights. If you go on a Friday or Saturday ...get there early or you will be waiting a long time. They also have seats on the patio over looking the golf course....very nice. It is small and doesn't seat many people. Steaks are hand cut and thick and not expensive at all. Also their Beer Cheese won 1st place.

If you liked Guance's you got to try South Main Grocery. It is a small grocery store....so nothing fancy, but the food is great. Ask for Audra or JC.

 

Another good place is Taste of China. All the crab legs you can eat on Thur-Sun.

I hate beer, but like beer cheese. Guess the cheese and spices camo the beer flavor.....:lol:

 

It's funny because I meant to say cheese + anything spicy while drinking beer lol. I love beer cheese though. I can't really taste the beer in it but love eating it while having a beverage:lol:
