Question for a Traffic Officer

Featured Replies

 Thats right...I saw that Kentucky boy the nite he said it...I say it all the time. Usually when someone is fixin to drive. But Mama has had two car wrecks in the past year too. :scared:

I was just pulled over for not coming to a complete stop, and for not signalling as I entered the Kroger parking lot. The officer just gave me a warning (for which I am THRILLED).

My question is this: what factors determine whether the officer issues a ticket or a warning.

Here were my circumstances.

- He asked me if I had any good reason for not obeying the rules. I said that I couldn't give him a good reason. I DID mention that I am usually pretty anal about signalling

- I was polite

- I gave him my license AND my concealed carry permit. I immediately told him that I would cooperate completely with him regarding the firearm

- He asked me to keep my hands on the wheel (which I did)

- He asked what I had been doing & I told him: singing at a retirement center, and was now headed home.

- Because of the gig, I was dressed nicely

Again, what factors determine whether the officer gives out a ticket or a warning?

Officers are human like anyone else. They make decisions based on life/professional experiences with a bit of "how is my day going" thrown in.

I am sure all of the things mentioned above helped you get out as well as the mood of the officer. Thankfully he wasnt a petty fellow with nothing better to do than ticket you for something so trivial, especially since you were on your way home from volunteering at a retirement center.

Last year, I was pulled over for speeding. I was sitting in my car looking at my driver's rear view mirror waiting for the officer to get out of the car. What I didnt see was his partner get out of the passenger side of the car walk up to my passenger side and knock on the window. I screamed and was so startled that the officer laughed and let me off with a warning.

I've had more warnings than tickets. I always say sir/ma'am/ and never give an excuse. I also say "be careful out there" when they start to walk away.

They should get paid at least doubled what they get. $100K at least.

AMEN!

King, reminds of the time whem Michael Jordan was in his 3rd or 4th year and he called the police because he heard something in his backyard. Here are two officers going to the dark yard to check out a noise, and making what they make, and this pro player makes doing what he did. It just bothered me.

If a person is honest and forthright about the violation,

Speeding--I was not paying attention....music.....

Stop Signs--I have been through this intersection a million times and I got lazy

Expired Reg Plates (within 30 days) forgot, didn't notice.....

Honesty will almost always get you out of it.

Automatics....

Crying......

Looking at the Speedometer....

Girls unbottoning a botton.....

Stuff like that will get a ticket everytime.

That's the most creative, sincere story of how to get out of a ticket that I have ever heard!!

I got pulled over for speeding and handed the officer what I thought was my drivers license. It was a credit card. He laughed and said slow it down. Almost everyone has a sense of humor!

The American Idol judges would call that a threat...

I thought the same thing.
