“Doughnut” on bat while on deck

Featured Replies

Did they have that type of technology such as doughnuts way back then?

The concept of aluminum bats hadn't even been contemplated at that point.

Haha that's what I figured. Clyde would have been a stud had he ever laid his hands on one of the new Stealth bats.

I am having trouble reconciling the words "Clyde" and "stud" in the same sentence. :D

 Understandable.

Heck, aluminum cans hadn't even been contemplated even for soft drinks as they were still in glass bottles when I played baseball and when you took back your bottle back to the store, you could buy some penny candy with the two cents you got for returning the bottle. :thumb:

No. We just put one of our wool jerseys on the bat. Much heavier than a silly donut.

I think you feel like your swing is faster because, relative to the swings with the doughnut, it is.

I used to like to use a doughnut with a pitcher I would have trouble catching up to. I'd try to time the start of my swing with the doughnut, then when I got in the box, I'd have more time to read the pitch before the swing. Don't know if any of that makes sense, but it seemed to work for me.

Some very helpful posts--and good wit and humor, too.

Or , get the money from pop bottles to buy a rubber ball to play "strike-out"!

What about players using 2 bats or more at a time and swinging in the on deck circle?

I personally believe that it helps bat speed tremendously. If I do not have a doughnut on the bat, I have at least 3 bats and swinging all of them, and when I get to the plate the bat feels as light as a feather. That is just me though.
