Everyone has different tastes thank goodness. I may get blasted for this but I would rather hear Taylor Swift sing in a bucket than to hear Bob Dylan sing at all!!!! He is considered a legend but I think he can't sing at all. Write yes, sing no.:thumb:

 

Dylan's voice is definitely an acquired taste. Took me 27 years to get past it and start really appreciating his music. I've never been able to deal with Tom Waits' voice, though, and he may be as good (if not better) a songwriter as Dylan.

According to most, country music should include either a steel guitar or fiddle. A great country song will include both.

 

I think most people complain that contemporary country music has too much electric guitar and too much percussion. Don't get me wrong, I'd still much rather listen to today's country vs grunge rock or current R & B. I just miss the more traditional tunes.

:thumb: I like "some" of the the stuff but imo you cannot beat the cryin' sound of a steel guitar and people like the Possum, Hank, Patsy, Waylon, the Hag, Loretta, A.Jackson, G. Straight, D. Singletary amoung others. (btw, if someonme cannot identify the "single" names in my post then you are not qualified to talk about country music).

I also agree that imo any country music anytime beats any rap, grunge, heavy metal rock and that stuff.

I agree, I am no Taylor Swift fan at all. I don't think that she can sing that well at all, she can write some decent stuff. As for Dylan I agree as well, write yes but his singing sounds like a sick cow or something.

I know its time to start thinking about seeding my lawn when Jim gives his annual take on country music.

I like music in a lot of different genres. I don't so much care about the name of the category it is in, but whether or not there is a musical or lyrical quality that I can connect with.

 

I do like Taylor Swift. I don't think that she sings very well live, but her recorded music is good. I guess, being a female, I do connect with some of her lyrics, too.
