Above are listed the top ten returning rebounding leaders as listed by the NKY Enquirer. Who will be the rebounding leader for the region next year? Why? How will this influence his team and his team's success? The players are listed in order they finished in rebounds for 2008-2009.

I don't see a list but I'd cast my lot with Trevor Wellbrock.

Poll should be up now.

I voted for Pittman, just purely based on his size coupled with his leaping ability. He has potential to grow a bit over the summer and hopefully put a little bulk on as well. But JJ is a monster on the glass so I think he will be up there as well.

I'm wondering who the two "others" are? I went J. Johnson because I think he is better built as a rebounding machine when compared to Pittman, though we all know how athletic Pittman is.

I agree that Wellbrock is a rebounding machine.

Thelen from Cov Cath should be fully recovered from elbow surgery and pulling down many boards as well. (I guess that makes Thelan an "other" in the poll.)

Another "other" is Keavon Rice of Holmes, although he will have to compete with Rico, J.J. and Pittman for rebounds.

I considered the "other" vote like a field bet in the Derby.

A few "others" to consider could be Hodges (Conner), Watson (Highlands), Grubbs (Highlands), Pike (Dixie), Nichols (Ryle), Stauffer (Ryle). All should be very solid.

As far as who will be the rebounding leader, I think it will likely be Pittman of Holmes. I just don't see how he doesn't average a double double next year with his size. I've seen on here several times as well that his dad is in the 6'8-6'9 range which could very well mean Elijah isn't finished growing yet at 6'7.

Wellbrock of Covcath had a few nice rebounding games this year, but I think that had more to do with CCH having nobody else to grab the rebounds down low. Thelen went down with an injury toward the middle of the season and Isler was physical, but not exactly a jumping machine that was going to get you a lot of rebounds.

Did he avg a double/double this year with his size?

BTW Hunter Jones will be near the top as well.

Not sure about Hodges just because he is not a very physical player. He is going to block a lot of shots but don't think he is going to pull down a lot of rebounds. I atually think the othe soph post player at Conner, Clay Robinson, is the more physical and polished post player

Did he avg a double/double this year with his size?

Nope. According to nky.com, he averaged 14 ppg and 7 rpg.

I think him averaging 13 ppg and 9 rpg during the 9 game post season is a good indication though that his numbers will improve over the next year with added strength and size. Players do improve in certain areas from year to year, ya know.

Forgot all about Robinson. I agree, he is very solid.

I never said Hodges would lead nky in rebounds, just said he could be an "other" that could be mentioned.

Or is it an indication ,as Coach Henley stated, that he "turns it on" at certain times? He clearly had the size and capability of averaging double figures this year.

No reason for him not to average 10 boards. Its up to him.

Agree on all points.

Very interesting subject when you talk about rebounding and Cov-Holmes. On paper you would call anyone foolish to think that a Bulldog would lead the 9th region in rebounding next year. I mean looking at thier stats going into the Sweet Sixteen they entered the tournment as the worst rebounding team. Thier leading rebounder Pittman only had 6.3 a game, which wont get you into the top 5 for any region, and yet during the tournment Holmes leads all teams with the most rebounds! So what happened? Did the players learn about blocking out all of a sudden or was the coach sandbagging on the stats?
